We often make a point to carve out time for group warm ups, hype circles, or whatever special practices belong to your theatre of choice. It is less common that we are encouraged to take a second to ourselves and honor our own needs, or to check in with ourselves the way we may with a scene partner or friend. 

I am someone who has always prided myself on hard work and commitment to my projects, so having to step back and not give my 100% for the first time ever is terrifying. It’s hard enough being in so much pain at any given time, but when it starts making you question who you are, it’s easy to spiral. 

As the cliche says, you are who you surround yourself with. The second you enter a room, you are now part of it. Pursue knowledge, make connections, and give yourself a little more grace when that doubt creeps in: you deserve to be here.

Life at University is constantly moving, clubs, classes, and productions, all while maintaining a social life and friendships. There’s a balancing act required to avoid burning out immediately while still making the most of this chapter of my life.
