Tony Winner Lin-Manuel Miranda played his final performance as 'Usnavi' in his acclaimed Broadway hit, IN THE HEIGHTS on Sunday, February 15th, 2009 at 7pm. BroadwayWorld's cameras cheered on his final Broadway bow and he bid his show farewell.

After an amazing run from Off-Broadway sleeper to Tony Award winning Best Musical Spring Awakening ended its run on Broadway last night, Sunday, January 18, following the 7pm performance. After the cast gave the final bows, it was time to celebrate the music, memories and magic that was Spring Awakening. Current cast members, show alumni and the creative team headed to Bond 45 on 45th St. to get the bittersweet yet joyous festivites started and 'not do sadness', BroadwayWorld tagged along to join in the emotional closing night party. When Spring Awakening closed, it had played 859 performances and 29 previews. Its eight 2007 Tony? Awards, including Best Musical, made Spring Awakening one of the biggest Tony winners in the past decade. In addition to the Tony Award wins, Spring Awakening won four Drama Desk Awards, three Outer Critics Circle Awards, and the NY Drama Critics Award for Best Musical, the Drama League award for Distinguished Production of a Musical, and the 2008 Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album, among other notable citations.

On Wednesday, Jan 14th following the 8 pm performance of IN THE HEIGHTS - Ghostlight Records and ITH hosted a 'Grammy Night' Talkback. 100 Grammy University students as well as the Grammy board came to see the show and talk with the Tony winning creative team. The IN THE HEIGHTS album is nominated this year in the Best Musical Show Album. Tony winner Lin-Manuel Miranda lead the talk along with Alex Lacaimore and Bill Sherman, also Tony winners for their work on the show. IN THE HEIGHTS opened to critical acclaim, going on to win four 2008 Tony Awards (Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography, Best Orchestrations), and garnering a 2008 Grammy Award nomination for the original cast album. In November, 2008, Universal Pictures acquired the rights to produce a feature film based on IN THE HEIGHTS. The news of a 2009 GRAMMY Nomination for Best Musical Show Album, for their double-CD release of 'In The Heights' (already a Tony Award Winner for Best Musical and Best Score,) capped a dominant year for Ghostlight Records.

35 students from the five boroughs attended the 7pm performance of the 2008 Tony Award-winning best musical IN THE HEIGHTS at the Richard Rodgers Theatre (226 West 46th Street) on Tuesday January 13th.

On Friday, November 14, 2008, Broadway's six-time Tony Award-winning smash hit musical CHICAGO celebrated two major milestones: its 12th Anniversary and its 5,000th performance on The Great White Way. Special guest, the original Velma Kelly, Tony-winner Bebe Neuwirth stopped by to cheer the cast on as they celebrated 'CHICAGO' style!

The Broadway Workshop, Manhattan's fastest growing acting program for young artists, teamed up with Golden Globe nominated TV and movie star Nikki Blonsky, for its one day 'Hairspray' musical workshop. THE HAIRSPRAY WORKSHOP, took place on November 1, 2008 in New York City. This Workshop gave students the opportunity to work on every area of musical theater performance.

Laura Bell Bundy made her Feinstein's debut with JUST ME last night, Thursday, October 30th. JUST ME features Laura Bell singing Broadway songs as well as her own original material. The limited engagement of ROMANTIC POETRY celebrated opening night on Tuesday, October 28. Performances began September 30th 2008 at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street).

On Thursday October 16th 2008, in honor of the opening of the revitalized Father Duffy Square and the new TKTS booth, the Theatre Development Fund(TDF) and the Times Square Alliance (TSA) hosted the Inaugural lighting of the red steps under which the TKTS booth sits, in celebration of the Broadway community. This marked the first time the newly designed glowing red staircase was lit for the public.

Circle in the Square Theatre (Theodore Mann, Artistic Director and Paul Libin, Managing Director) has joined Culture Project as producer of the upcoming New York production of The Atheist, presented by Culture Project (Allan Buchman, Artistic Director). The dark comedy, written by Ronan Noone, directed by Justin Waldman and starring Campbell Scott as 'Augustine Early,' began performances at Culture Project's temporary new home, Barrow Street Theatre, on Tuesday, October 7th. It had an official opening Sunday evening, October 12.

On Wednesday, October 1st, Hip-Hop Theater Festival and The Center For Multicultural Education and Programs at New York University presented 'Voices of a People's History of the United States: The Remix'! Beginning in the summer of 2000, the annual Hip-Hop Theater Festival brings together the Hip-Hop generation and those interested in learning more about it in a celebration of the Hip-Hop culture.

On Monday September 29th, Xanadu's Mary Testa joined Gypsy's Alison Fraser for a concert to celebrate the work of Fraser's late husband, composer Rusty Magee. The concert - entitled 'Together Again' - was held at the Laurie Beechman Theatre, which is located within the West Bank Cafe. The singing actresses were accompanied by a full band led by Allison Leyton-Brown.

Christy Carlson Romano -- the popular actress and recording artist who starred on Broadway in BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and received an Emmy-nomination for her performance on the Disney Channel's 'Kim Possible' -- joined the Broadway cast of the Tony Award-winning musical AVENUE Q last night, Monday September 29th. BroadwayWorld.com was there to celebrate her return to Broadway!

Top Broadway performers sang the music of Larson Award winners Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 at the Zipper Factory, 336 W. 37th Street (between 8th & 9th Avenues) as part of the special NYMF concert 'Party Worth Crashing'.

'Lilli Marlene' a new musical featuring the hits of the WWII era starring Linn Maxwell, opened on Monday, September 22nd at the Abington Theater (312 West 36th Street). Directed by Erv Raible, with a book by Kathryn Ryan, the show features such songs as 'As Time Goes By', 'A Nightingale Sang in Berkley Square', 'It Had To Be You', 'The White Cliffs of Dover', 'Mad About the Boy' and 'Lilli Marlene', which was made famous by legendary Marlene Dietrich. Paul Trueblood is the musical director.
