On Thursday, September 20, The Broadway League and Coalition of Broadway Unions andGuilds (COBUG) will present the third-annual "Broadway Salutes," an industry-wide celebration to honor those who make Broadway great.

Labyrinth Theater Company (Co-Artistic Directors Stephen Adly Guirgis, Mimi O'Donnell, Yul Vazquez and Managing Director, Danny Feldman), Off-Broadway's home of groundbreaking and incendiary theater, today announced its 2012-2013 season of new works, including the three World Premiere productions of: Radiance by Cusi Cram, A Family for All Occasions, written by Bob Glaudini, and a new play by Stephen Adly Guirgis. All three plays will be presented at the Bank Street Theater (155 Bank Street), Labyrinth Theater Company's new home in New York City's West Village.

Founded in 1979 by its artistic director Jeffrey Horowitz, Theatre for a New Audience is a modern classical theatre that produces Shakespeare alongside other major authors in a dialogue that spans centuries. Its 33rd season, the last before moving to its first home adjacent to BAM in the new Downtown Brooklyn Cultural District, features boldly diverse works from William Shakespeare, Franz Kafka in a theatrical adaptation by Colin Teevan, Samuel Beckett and Wallace Shawn. In a co-production with The Public Theater, Mr. Shawn's plays will be part of The Wallace Shaw-Andre Gregory Project.

Fast food restaurant Chick-Fil-A has been taking a lot of heat in recent days for admitting their anti-marriage equality stance. Today at Chick-Fil-A's across the country, the chain celebrates it's own 'Appreciation Day,' at which customers can show their support of the company and their thoughts on 'traditional marriage.'

In a recent interview with David Itzkoff of the New York Times, stage veteran Chris Rock revealed that he'd like to return to Broadway. When asked, he responded: 'Oh, I would love to. I realized with Broadway everything written for black people is usually written in the past, and I'm kind of a contemporary guy. I don't think you want to see me in "Raisin in the Sun."

Broadway at Birdland is proud to announce a new series called "Portrait Of An Artist," in which actor/director/painter Steve Bakunas interviews musical and theatrical icons while painting their portrait before the audience's eyes! These famous folks will share their successes, failures and lessons learned in a very intimate one-on-one chat on the historic Birdland stage. Today in 1965, Oliver! opened at the Martin Beck Theatre, where it ran for 64 performances. Oliver! is a British musical, with script, music and lyrics by Lionel Bart. The musical is based upon the novel Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. It premiered in the West End in 1960, enjoying a long run, a successful Broadway production in 1963 and further tours and revivals. It was made into a musical film in 1968. Major London revivals played from 1994-1998 and again from 2009-2011.

One for My Baby, set to a score of some three dozen Harold Arlen classics and billed as "a song-and-dance celebration ofbig-city nightlife at the end of World War II," will have a private, industry-only workshop at the New 42nd Street Studios, 229 West 42 Street, this October 11 and October 12.

Iconic stage and screen actress Kathleen Turner returns to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater to star in Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins, as the feisty, unforgettable political journalist. Written by twin-sister journalists Margaret Engel and Allison Engel and directed by David Esbjornson (Broadway's The Goat, or Who is Sylvia? and Driving Miss Daisy), the D.C. premiere kicks off Arena Stage's 2012/13 season playing August 23 through October 28, 2012 in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle.

The raucous, irreverent, and unfiltered new Off-Broadway musical comedy The Last Smoker in America, with book and lyrics by Tony Award® Nominee Bill Russell (Side Show) and music by Drama Desk Nominee Peter Melnick (Adrift in Macao), opens tonight, August 2 at the Westside Theatre (407 West 43rd Street).

Happy Birthday, Sam Mendes! Sam Mendes is best known for whis work as the artistic director of the Donmar Warehouse, and his direction of the film American Beauty and the Broadway production of Cabaret on Broadway starring Alan Cumming. His production of Oliver! became the longest running show ever to play at the London Palladium. Additional stage credits includeTennessee Williams's The Glass Menagerie, Stephen Sondheim's Company (which had the first ever African American 'Bobby'), Alan Bennett's Habeas Corpus and his farewell duo of Chekhov's Uncle Vanya and Twelfth Night, which transferred to the Brooklyn Academy Of Music and Gypsy on Broadway starring Bernadette Peters.

According to Published reports, stage and screen star R. G. Armstrong passed away over the weekend. He was 85 years old.

Direct from a 13-city National Tour, Bring It On: The Musical opens on Broadway tomorrow, Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at The St. James Theatre for a 12-week limited engagement through Sunday, October 7, 2012. The show got its start at Atlanta's Alliance Theatre, and in the video below the old friends wish the cast a happy opening.

As BroadwayWorld previously reported, Angela Lansbury and James Earl Jones will lead an Australian premiere of DRIVING MISS DAISY next winter. According to Courier Mail, the show is set to open at the Playhouse Theatre at QPAC on February 5.

Center Theatre Group has announced that Robert Egan is set to direct Jon Robin Baitz's immensely entertaining "Other Desert Cities" at the Mark Taper Forum. The play that received a 2012 Tony nomination for Best Play will be presented in its West Coast premiere at the Taper and will close out the Taper's 45th season at the Los Angeles Music Center.

Stage Entertainment, in cooperation with Disney Theatrical Productions, present the Dutch premiere of The Little Mermaid, which premiered on Broadway in 2007. After presenting Tarzan, Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King, the Netherlands is the first country to scoop the European premiere of the Disney musical. Disney's The Little Mermaid opened on May 12, premiering at Martini Plaza in Groningen and then playing larger theaters in the Netherlands. BroadwayWorld brings you production shots below!

The Hollywood Bowl's production of THE PRODUCERS ended its limited run on July 29, 2012. The cast featured Richard Kind as Max Bialystock, Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Leo Bloom, Roger Bart as Carmen Ghia, Gary Beach as Roger De Bris, Rebecca Romijn as Ulla and Dane Cook as Franz Liebkind.

Stage favorite Michael Crawford has been busy advising Great Britain's 13-person synchronized swimming team for the London Olympics. Crawford shared his artistic expertise with the team, who will perform a Peter Pan-themed Olympic free routine at next week's events.
