Happy Birthday, Alfred Drake! He is best known for his leading roles in the original Broadway productions of Oklahoma!; Kiss Me, Kate; Kismet; and for playing Marshall Blackstone in the original production of Babes in Arms, (in which he sang the title song) and Hajj in Kismet, for which he received the Tony Award. His 1964 stage performance as Claudius in the Richard Burton Hamlet was filmed live on the stage of the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre. His final stage appearance in a musical was in 1973 as Honore LaChaisse in Lerner and Loewe's Gigi. Two years later he starred in a revival of The Skin of Our Teeth.

Today CEC is shining our spotlight on long-time writing partners Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk. Their song 'Last Week's Alcohol' was performed by Matt Doyle, talented star of stage and screen, at our concert at the Canal Room. We are thrilled to share it with all of you on Broadwayworld!

"Matilda," "Newsies" and "West Side Story" actor/dancer Ryan Steele stars in the latest edition of the new video series #ShareTheMattress that features creative artists dancing and playing on their beds. Steele is the star of the new film Five Dances, which comes out today, and was the official selection of the Seattle International Film Festival 2013 and Jacob's Pillow's Dance Festival 2013. A prolific actor and dancer in both film and theater, Steele has established himself as a prominent rising actor on Broadway and in Hollywood.

The original cast of the York Theatre Company 2012 revival production of the classic Off-Broadway hit musical Closer Than Ever just renuited for the official New York release of the new cast recording on the Jay Record Label. He was again a Tony nominee for his portrayal of Barry Champlain in the 2007 Broadway revival of Eric Bogosian's 'Talk Radio', directed by Robert Falls, Other stage work includes The Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park production of 'Macbeth', in the lead role opposite Jennifer Ehle, directed by Moises Kaufman; 'Iago'; 'Hamlet'; 'Henry the V'; and 'Cymbeline'.

Sting will perform songs from his new album, The Last Ship, for 10 concerts to benefit The Public Theater in their intimate, 260-seat Anspacher Theater continuing through October 9. An evening of music and storytelling with one of the world's most prolific artists, these performances will offer unique insight into the creative process of both his new album. According to TMZ, Cory Monteith, who was found dead on Saturday, July 13th in his Vancouver hotel room, passed away due to a lethal combination of champagne and heroin. According to the final coroner's report, the star was found with empty champagne glasses and a 'spoon with drug residue and a used hypodermic needle.'
