Today in 2007, the second Broadway revival of Grease opened at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, where it ran for 554 performances. Grease is a 1971 musical by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The musical is named for the 1950s United States working-class youth subculture known as the greasers. The musical, set in 1959 at fictional Rydell High School (loosely based on William Howard Taft School), follows ten working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of love, cars, and drive-ins.

Tony Award winning star Neil Patrick Harris played his final show in the new production of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the musical with book by John Cameron Mitchell and music and lyrics by Stephen Trask, directed by Michael Mayer, last night, August 17. The Covenant House just held the Second Annual Sleep Out: Broadway Edition last night, August 17, 2014, where members of the Broadway community spent the night sleeping on the streets outside the Covenant House to raise much needed funds for homeless youth. In the video below, this year's participants join together in 'Lean on Me.'

Signature Theatre is currently presenting Sunday in the Park with George, the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award®-winning musical, directed by Signature Associate Artistic Director Matthew Gardiner (Signature's Dreamgirls, The Threepenny Opera). Running in the MAX Theatre through September 21, the Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine classic is the first production of Signature Theatre's 25th Anniversary. Today in 1981, the second Broadway revival of My Fair Lady opened at the Uris Theatre (now the George Gershwin Theatre), where it ran for 120 performances. My Fair Lady is a musical based upon George Bernard Shaw's Pygmalion and with book and lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and music by Frederick Loewe. The story concerns Eliza Doolittle, a Cockney flower girl who takes speech lessons from professor Henry Higgins, a phoneticist, so that she may pass as a well born lady. The musical's 1956 Broadway production was a hit, setting what was then the record for the longest run of any major musical theatre production in history. It was followed by a hit London production, a popular film version, and numerous revivals.

Today in 2008, the first Broadway revival of A Chrous Line closed at the Schoenfeld Theatre, where it ran for 759 performances. A Chorus Line is a musical about Broadway dancers auditioning for spots on a chorus line. The book was authored by James Kirkwood, Jr. and Nicholas Dante, lyrics were written by Edward Kleban, and music was composed by Marvin Hamlisch. With nineteen main characters, it is set on the bare stage of a Broadway theatre during an audition for a musical. The show provides a glimpse into the personalities of the performers and the choreographer as they describe the events that have shaped their lives and their decisions to become dancers. The original Broadway production received 12 Tony Award nominations and winning nine of them, in addition to the 1976 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Happy Birthday, Cristin Milioti! Milioti currently stars in the Tony-Award winning musical ONCE. Her other Broadway credits include The Lieutenant of Inishmore and Coram Boy. Off-Broadway credits include Once, The Little Foxes, Stunning (Lucille Lortel nom.), That Face, The Heart is a Lonely Hunter, The Retributionists, Crooked.

Today in 2002, Hairspray opened at the Neil Simon Theatre, where it ran for 2642 performances. Hairspray is a musical with music by Marc Shaiman, lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman and a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, based on the 1988 John Waters film Hairspray. In 1962 Baltimore, Maryland, plump teenager Tracy Turnblad's dream is to dance on The Corny Collins Show, a local TV dance program. When Tracy wins a role on the show, she becomes a celebrity overnight. She then launches a campaign to integrate the show. Hairspray is a social commentary on the injustices of parts of American society in the 1960s.

Amas Musical Theatre in association with North Haven Arts and Enrichment will present Broadway's Josh Grisetti (Broadway Bound, Enter Laughing), Alli Mauzey (Wicked, Cry-Baby), and Kevin Pariseau(Legally Blonde) in the New York Premiere of Red Eye of Love, a new musical (based on the 1961 play by Arnold Weinstein) with book and lyrics by Arnold Weinstein and John Wulp, music by Sam Davisand scenic design by renowned American artist Robert Indiana. Directed by Tony Award winner Ted Sperling, previews will begin at the Dicapo Opera Theatre (184 East 76th Street at Lexington Avenue) on Wednesday, August 27, 2014. Paige Faure and Adam Monley can now officially be considered Broadway Royalty. Paige currently dons the coveted glass slippers as the title role in Cinderella, and while she is playing Princess, Adam is at the Imperial Theatre, where he just concluded his limited run as Javert in Les Miserables. Together they have accrued over five Broadway credits including Woody Allen's Bullets Over Broadway and the international sensation Mamma Mia!
