5th Avenue Theatre presents MAMMA MIA, which opened February 9th and runs through the 25th. The ABBA jukebox musical follows Sophie, a young woman determined to have her father walk her down the aisle, despite not knowing who he is. After reading her mother's diary, she narrows down her father's identity to three possible men, and, much to her mother's dismay, invites them all to the wedding.
Berkeley Rep presents Julia Cho's OFFICE HOUR. This touching and timely play examines what happens when a teacher is tasked with reaching out to the withdrawn, intimidating student that has the rest of the school incredibly nervous. Though difficult, gaining his trust leads to shocking revelations.
Theatre Under the Stars presents MEMPHIS! The 2010 Tony Awards Best Musical winner, featuring a book by Joe DiPietro and music by David Bryan, is set in the 1950s. It follows DJ Huey Calhoun, who breaks convention when he becomes one of the first white DJs to play black music on his radio station. MEMPHIS is set to open February 20th, and will run through March 4th.
The University of Hawai'i presents FIGHTS AND DELIGHTS, a trio of Chinese comedies! FIGHTS AND DELIGHTS is a collaboration between University of Hawai'i's Asian Theatre program and Theatre for Young Audiences program. FIGHTS AND DELIGHTS is a combination of three separate Chinese plays: TREASURE IN THE CHEST, PI JIN ROLLS THE LAMP, and WHERE THREE ROADS MEET. FIGHTS AND DELIGHTS opens February 16th and runs through the 25th.
The Media Theatre presents Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt's Pultizer Prize winning musical, NEXT TO NORMAL. This deeply moving rock-musical follows a typical suburban family, haunted by past trauma that manifests itself in matriarch Diana's bipolar disorder. NEXT TO NORMAL opened on January 31st and runs through February 25th.
Denver Center for the Performing Arts presents the World Premiere of AMERICAN MARIACHI, written by Jose Cruz Gonzalez. AMERICAN MARIACHI tells the story of a group of young women in the 1970s who break tradition to form an all-female Mariachi band. AMERICAN MARIACHI opened on January 26th and will run through February 25th.
San Diego Rep presents VIETGONE, which opened January 25th and runs through February 18th. Written by Qui Nguyen, VIETGONE is a dramatized account of his parents own meeting and ensuing relationship. The two met in the 1970s when they immigrated to the United States following the fall of Saigon, and quickly fell in love. Both humorous and heartwarming, VIETGONE looks at the past through contemporary eyes.

The play was inspired by the Bavarian Hinterkaifeck murders, where six members of one household were brutally murdered in 1922. The case was never solved. HINTER delves into that mystery and attempts to piece together what may have really happened on that fateful night. HINTER opened on January 25th and will run through March 3rd.

Desperate to earn some cash to help support their families, they note how much the women in their lives enjoy a Chippendales act, and how willing they are to give their money to them. Inspired, the guys decide to take it a step further: they'll do a strip-tease act, but they'll go THE FULL MONTY.

JOSEPH is notable for covering a variety of musical styles throughout its score.
The World-Premiere of SOVEREIGNTY opened January 12th and runs through February 18th at Arena Stage as part of the Women's Voices Theater Festival. Mary Kathryn Nagle's play, which features flashbacks spanning to the 1830s, follows a modern-day Native American woman, trying to use her powers as a lawyer to restore rights to the Cherokee Nation. SOVEREIGNTY explores anger over injustice, and how long it takes things to reach a boiling point.
Seven Days, Vermont's Independent Voice, reports that Vermont Stage will host the world premiere of Stephen Spotswood's new play DOUBLEWIDE, running January 24th - February 11th. DOUBLEWIDE has been picked up by the National New Play Network, an organization that aims to help new plays gain visibility by promising a given play that their work will be picked up by at least three participating theaters in the span of the year. DOUBLEWIDE will be produced first in Vermont, before later being staged by theaters in Florida and Michigan.
Riverside Theatre presents Rupert Holmes' 1985 musical THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, which opened January 16th and runs through February 4th!
NC Theatre presents A.R. Gurney's 1988 play LOVE LETTERS, running January 12th-21st. LOVE LETTERS follows two childhood friends, Melissa and Andy, who stay in contact over fifty years of their lives by writing letters, effectively becoming pen-pals. As Melissa and Andy share the highs and lows of their lives with one another, LOVE LETTERS becomes a story of companionship, friendship, and love.
