Written by well known local playwright, Rob Parnell, Kool Kafe is a fun musical/ comedy set in the sizzling 1970s.

When Mark Taylor needed funds to complete his third CD, he turned to an unconventional source. friends, family and fans. Working with the fan-funding website RocketHub.com, Mark's project raised enough money to cover duplication and design costs. Taylor will present the results of this unusual collaboration at the CD release party for At What Age May 29th at Cornelia St. Cafe.

The First Presbyterian Church of Cape May will be East Lynne Theater Company's honoree on Thursday, May 19 at the South Jersey Cultural Alliance's (SJCA) 16th Annual Paul Aiken Encore Awards Dinner at Bally's in Atlantic City. East Lynne is a proud member of SJCA, and this event offers the opportunity for members to recognize those who graciously support arts organizations in eight South Jersey counties. This year, thirty awards are expected to be bestowed, including the Alliance's own 2011 Lillian Levy Standing Ovation Award to NJN and a Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr. Marc Mappen, who was formerly a dean at Rutgers University and recently retired as executive director of the New Jersey Historical Commission.

On Saturday, April 16th, 25 metro area high schools continued their journey toward scholarships, prizes and money for their performing arts programs by competing at the St. Louis Teen Talent Showcase Semifinals. Area performing arts professionals judged the groups and narrowed them down to 12 that will move on to the finals on Friday, May 6th at 8pm at The Fabulous Fox Theatre (list of schools attached). Show at Barre welcomes Wayne Brady, star of Broadway's Chicago, RENT at the Hollywood Bowl, and most notably TV's Whose Line is It Anyway? and The Wayne Brady Show. Brady will be debuting his brand new cabaret concert with Show at Barre for two nights only, Sunday, April 17 and Monday, April 18, with musical direction by Ben Toth.

Financial woes have taken their toll on the Tony-winning Intiman Theatre, which will cancel the rest of its season and lay off all of its employees, according to the Seattle Times. Intiman's board made the decision Saturday morning.

In A N O N Y M O U S, renowned artist Jaume Plensa presents works on paper and sculpture, using his signature multidisciplinary approach and interest in the collective experiences and memories across cultures and time. The exhibition at Galerie Lelong coincides with the presentation of Plensa's monumental sculpture Echo, opening May 5 at New York's Madison Square Park. In Echo and the works featured in A N O N Y M O U S, Plensa conveys notions of the individual and humanity as both distinctive and universal. Musical Theatre West's Footlighters Guild announced the winners of their annual Footlighters Scholarship competition. Each year the Musical Theatre West Footlighters present five $1,000 scholarships to high school students in the Los Angeles County and Orange County school districts.
