The Parks & Recreation Department will be hosting the New York Skyliners Drum and Bugle Corps rehearsals this winter in Queens. The corps performs at exhibitions, and parades throughout the year and its field corps competes during the summer months throughout the northeastern states in the Drum Corps Associates competition circuit.

The third New York Philharmonic Young People's Concert (YPC) of the 2010-11 season will take place Saturday, March 12, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., led by Philharmonic Assistant Conductor Daniel Boico. The concert will focus on the Romantic era as part of the season's theme, "The Ages of Music," which explores the four major periods of orchestral music. Philharmonic Director of Education Theodore Wiprud is the host of the series, designed for youngsters 6 to 12 years of age, with programs written and directed by Tom Dulack. This concert will feature violinist Erno Kallai - one of four young violinists who are appearing as soloists on the YPCs this season - and actors Adam Alexander and Alesia Lawson.

The first Socrates in the City event of 2011 will be a performance of the hit play FREUD'S LAST SESSION, by Mark St. Germain, this Sunday, February 13th at 7pm. There will be a pre-show reception at 6:15. As soon as this special evening was announced, all 145 tickets sold out within 24 hours. After Sunday's performance, Socrates in the City Founder Eric Metaxas will host a Q&A "talkback" with Mark St. Germain and the two stars of FREUD'S LAST SESSION, Mark H. Dold (C.S. Lewis) and Martin Rayner (Sigmund Freud).

One of the earliest operas, written in the 1640s, Monteverdi's The Coronation of Poppea, is to get a fresh treatment by Mark Ravenhill and Alex Silverman, with a new jazz-inspired orchestration, and featuring a cast of exciting singing talents. It will premiere as part of the Little Opera House's first ever repertory season, with 10 performances from Tuesday April 5 to Thursday May 19.
