The Seattle Center Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration and Youth Awards will be presented on Saturday, January 15 at the Center House's Main Stage from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. This event is a co-production of Seattle Center and the Seattle Youth Violence Prevention Initiative and Central District Forum for Arts & Ideas. Mayor Mike McGinn will participate in the award presentation.

The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration honors the dream of Dr. King by promoting the principles of peace, unity and equality, providing an opportunity for Seattle citizens to remember the dream and vision of MLK and commending citizens who are energizing the MLK dream in their communities.

A focal point of the Celebration, (1:15 p.m. - 1:40 p.m.), the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Award is presented to youth and youth organizations in Seattle that have energized and carried on the dream and ideals of Dr. King by promoting peace, community leadership, social justice and equity for all citizens.

Central District Forum will participate in the Celebration with a music accompanied reading of a seldom recited speech by Dr. King, "Beyond Vietnam," addressing how Americans struggled with this devastating war.

The afternoon will close with Concert for Peace, featuring a tribute to Billie Holiday with singer Stacie Calkins.

The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Celebration is sponsored by Clear Channel Radio Seattle, the City of Seattle and Seattle Center Foundation.
