The Desert Rose Playhouse, the Coachella Valley's live stage company serving the LGBT and gay-friendly community, announces their schedule of productions for the 2013/14 Season. The DRT is located in a wonderfully intimate theatre space at the border of Rancho Mirage and Cathedral City, centrally located for patrons from all parts of the desert. "We are screening a total of twenty four feature films and more than 30 shorts this year," Michael C. Green, Managing Director of The Palm Springs Cultural Center, said. "This has been a banner year for LGBT filmmaking, which made the selection process even more difficult, but in the end, I think we've put together a schedule that may be our best ever."

The Coachella Valley's premiere theatrical venue, The McCallum Theatre, has added an exciting new array of offerings to its' already jam-packed upcoming seaon. Comedy, jazz, world music, country royalty, pop icons and first ladies of American song have been added to the roster of McCallum Theatre's 2013-2014 season. 'We are always looking to add performances with the broadest appeal to Valley audiences,' said Mitch Gershenfeld, President & CEO of the McCallum. Graham has more than two decades of experience in the gaming and hospitality industry, including senior-level positions at the Palms Casino Resort, Wynn and Flamingo, in Las Vegas. This 'musical biography' featured hit after hit, over twenty songs in all, and tells the story of one of the greatest pop icons the world has ever known -- all performed live by what many consider to be the World's #1 Michael Jackson Impersonator, Kenny Wizz. Together with a live band of talented musicians, fully choreographed dancers, authentic costumes and a light and screen show, HIStory is the recreation of a Michael Jackson concert experience. Saxophonist Emma Reinhart and Vocalist April Murphy shared the Helen Turner Grand Prize Award at the McCallum Theatre's Annual Open Call Talent Competition on Saturday night, the first time in the event's fifteen year history the judges declared a tie for the top prize. The winners were announced by host (and Open Call 2011 Grand Prize winner) Rob Watkins following a rousing finale which featured all twenty-two finalist acts (76 individual performers) before a sold-out audience. The family of award namesake Helen Turner determined on the spot that each winner would receive the $2,500 grand prize.

Rumour has it that Coyote Stageworks' current production, which plays through Sunday at The Annenberg Theatre in Palm Springs, is a one of the desert's finest theatrical offerings of the season. I am happy to report - It's all TRU! Coyote Stageworks' founding artistic director, Chuck Yates, stars in this one-man (plus a few voices) tour de force that chronicles a couple of introspective nights in the life of Truman Capote, set in his New York Apartment just before Christmas in 1975, as an excerpt from his unfinished 'tell all' novel Answered Prayers has just been published in Esquire and he has been abandoned by his closest confidantes. TRU is one of the first 'Must See' productions I have endorsed in quite a while - perhaps since last time I attended a Coyote Stageworks production. It is a 'drop everything if you can and buy a ticket' night in the theatre.
