David Green

David Green is the Founder and Executive Director of Musical Theatre University, a comprehensive training ground for young people with aspirations for careers in professional theatre. His alumni include Tony Winners Steohanie J Block (Falsettos and The Cher Show) and Lindsay Mendez (Carousel and Merrily We Roll Along), Tony Nominees Matthew Morrison (TV’s “GLEE” and “The Light In The Piazza”) and Susan Egan (“Beauty and the Beast”) ,  Krysta Rodriguez (First Date” and “The Addams Family”), Anneliese VanDerPol (“Vanities”, “Beauty And The Beast” and TV’s “That’s So Raven”), Grace McClean (Natasha/Pieree and Bad CInderalla), Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian and  The Last OF Us) and many more. He was the founder of The California Conservatory of the Arts and co-founder of The Orange County School of the Arts. 

Mr. Green has staged and directed over 200 musical and theatrical productions for both educational and professional theatre and worked with stars ranging from Debbie Reynolds, John Raitt, Betty Garrett, Davis Gaines, Stephanie Zimbalist, Carol Burnett, Rachel York, Carol Cook, JoAnne Worley, Rex Smith, Carol Channing, Bruce Vilanch, Bob Hope and Liberace. He has written and directed seven PBS television specials and served as the Artistic Director for the State of California Department of Education’s Distinguished School Awards for ten years. He co-created and developed the nationally acclaimed Fashion Island Tree Lighting Ceremony in Newport Beach, CA which has grown to an event with an audience of over 25,000 patrons annually. He has staged and directed multiple staged reading of new musicals in both New York and Los Angeles.

Mr, Green is the Regional Editor for Broadway World, the nation’s leading and largest online publication on professional theatre, and he hosts a weekly radio show called Front Row Center and. He served as a Director for the internationally acclaimed Young Americans before his work with the various schools of the arts. At the 2017 Tony Awards he was named one of the top theatre edcuators in America by The Broadway League and Carnegie Mellon University.

The 2017 edition of American Documentary Film Festival opens this Friday, March 31st, 9:30 am at Camelot Theatres with the Annual AmDocs Film Fund Pitch Competition (Presented by Synimatica). The Film Fund Pitch Competition is open to the public and is free. Following the competition, AmDocs will feature four film screenings throughout the day, including the timely THERE WILL BE WATER (11am) - a Danish film that documents the way in which saltwater can be brought to the desert, turned to freshwater, and used to fuel agriculture, industry and improve the lives of millions. It's a must see for anyone living in the Western United States.

Known for her thought provoking one-liners and her observations on everyday life, Rita keeps it real talking about the things that amuse her.  A house-filling favorite in Las Vegas since she opened as one of the hottest tickets in town in June 2000, Rita Rudner is known for her epigrammatic one-liners. Over the course of a fourteen year run and 2,000 plus shows, she has sold one and a half million tickets and become the longest-running solo comedy show in the history of Las Vegas. She has been named Las Vegas's Comedian of the Year nine years in a row and, in 2006, received The Nevada Ballet's Woman of the Year Award.

Originally directed and choreographed by directing and dancing legend Bob Fosse, Sweet Charity at the Palm Canyon Theatre is focused on bringing that Fosse style to Palm Springs. Choreographer Stephanie Eley, a stage veteran, is sharing her expertise with dancers from various studios across the valley and many College of the Desert students. Eley was in the original Broadway cast of Dreamgirls and My One and Only, and performed in the national and international tours of A Chorus Line from 1977-1980. With dance number after dance number, this is sure to be a show not to be missed as PCT winds down its 20th Anniversary Season.

For years, her witty speeches were mostly limited to conventions and meetings, but with the dawn of the digital age, the world became exposed to her infectious humor when her YouTube videos suddenly went viral.

The McCallum Theatre Concert Band returns for its 5th annual performance on Sunday, March 26, at 3:00pm. This year's program with Gershwin's classic 'An American in Paris' will be conducted by McCallum Theatre President and CEO Mitch Gershenfeld. It's an afternoon performance for the entire family with 40 of Hollywood's finest musicians playing stirring marches, band classics and popular tunes. This year's guest conductor Sylvia Gregoire will conduct the 'Stars and Stripes Forever March' by John Philip Sousa. And, of course, there is free ice cream for everyone after the show.

In addition, the Desert Symphony will be honoring Ruta Lee, whose career has included both stage and screen, with the Amadeus Award for her philanthropy and dedication to the Performing Arts. She is the first woman to receive this prestigious award and joins the ranks of Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, John Tesh, Jack Jones, Ted Giatas, and last year's recipient Harold Matzner.

If you thought YOU'RE family was strange --- the Palm Canyon Theatre introduces audiences to an extremely eccentric family, the Vanderhof-Sycamore-Carmichael clan, as the regional repertory theatre presents You Can't Take It With You, March 16-19. The classic comedic play, by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. In 1938, the adapted film won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Best Director, Frank Capra.

A new collaboration between the one-of-a-kind culinary event company PS Underground and Pete's Hideaway has unveiled a new addition to the Palm Springs entertainment scene: CLUB ROUGE, a secret, underground nightclub and showroom.  The grand opening was last Saturday when PS UNDERGROUND presented the "Lost Cherry Cabaret," a late-night, sultry nightclub show patterned after the "Kit Kat Club" in the musical "Cabaret" and harkening back to the dark, provocative cabaret clubs of the 1920s and 30s.  The room was full to capacity and the performers received a well-deserved standing ovation as they dazzled the audience with music of many genres, each performed with a twist on the expected.

Sharing stories from his autobiography So, Anyway…, the co-founder of Monty Python talks about how he became a celebrity despite having some talent. It's the life of Britain's most revered and ridiculous son, a not-to-be missed journey from impropriety to notoriety.  John Cleese is both a versatile comedic actor and a leading business motivator. With the legendary British comedy series "Monty Python's Flying Circus" and "Fawlty Towers" and films, including The Holy Grail, The Meaning of Life, The Life of Brian and A Fish Called Wanda, he created a unique comedic style that has inspired countless writers and comedians.

The California Desert Chorale (CDC) is proud to present 'We've Got Ritmo' for its upcoming spring concert. This vibrant programis divided into two distinctly different halves, which compliment each other quite nicely.  ACT 1 will feature dynamic, percussive choral music of Latin America, with driving, rhythmic music of Argentina, Brazil, Colombia and Mexico by Oscar Escalada, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Ariel Ramirez.  ACT 2 is devoted exclusively to the extraordinary music of the legendary composer and pianist George Gershwin, including such classic favorites as 'I Got Rhythm', 'Love Is Here to Stay', 'Fascinatin' Rhythm' and 'Someone to Watch Over Me.' The program will culminate with a dazzling medley of songs from Gershwin's only opera, Porgy and Bess.
