At the Van Wezel Foundation's 10th annual Gala last evening, the Honorable Congressman, Vern Buchanan presented Mary Bensel, Executive Director of the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, a congressional proclamation in honor of her service and leadership of the Hall and in support of the educational programs and community engagement activities of the Hall. The gala and the show, which featured Dionne Warwick, were sell outs. Congressman Buchanan stated that the Van Wezel is a driving force in Sarasota's vibrant art scene, which is a major economic driver for the area.

Former New York Giants linebacker Carl Banks will be signing autographs in the lower lobby of the Circle in the Square Theatre on Tuesday, February 1 from 6:30-7:00pm. The 1986 Vince Lombardi trophy that Banks and the rest of the 'Big Blue Wrecking Crew' helped to bring home to New York for their victory in Super Bowl XXI will also be on display from February 1 through Super Bowl Sunday on February 6, 2011. The lower lobby of the Circle in the Square Theatre is accessible to ticket-holders only.

This farce is set in a men's Manhattan bathhouse where an unsuspecting businessman has taken refuge from his homicidal mobster brother-in-law and stumbles across an assortment of oddball characters. Jay Garner, a veteran actor of the stage and screen, passed away Jan. 21 at the age of 82. Mr. Garner died in New York City of respiratory failure resulting from pneumonia, according to friend and La Cage castmate John Weiner.
