Manhattan Theatre Club' s New York premiere of THE WHIPPING MAN, the acclaimed new play by Matthew Lopez, directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes, began previews at MTC at New York City Center - Stage I 131 West 55th Street. This new production stars two-time Emmy Award winner André Braugher 'Men of a Certain Age,' 'Homicide', André Holland Joe Turner's Come and Gone, The Brother/Sister Plays, and Jay Wilkison film version of Rabbit Hole.

The Public Theater Artistic Director Oskar Eustis, Executive Director Andrew D. Hamingson and Amnesty International USA hosted a rally on Wednesday, January 19 from 12 PM to 1 PM to show solidarity and support for the persecuted Belarus artists and activists, including Belarus Free Theater whose powerful production of BEING Harold Pinter was just staged to great acclaim at this year's Under the Radar Festival.

Federico García Lorca is celebrated the world over for his poetry, music and plays. Yet at the age of 27, he was still a struggling artist living with his parents, staging puppet plays that were laughed off the stage by the critics. His need for freedom fueled his desire to succeed. In search of duende, his travels through New York and Cuba became a quest for cultural integration and gender acceptance. In the Americas, Lorca shined like a mad and fiery diamond, fusing his cante jondo with Afro-Cuban son to create a new rhythm of powerfully poetic drama.

BABY WANTS CANDY, the hilarious improvised musical comedy, will appear at SoHo Playhouse, 15 Vandam Street, Saturdays at 10 p.m. through Saturday, February 26. Loving Repeating: A Musical of Gertrude Stein - The West Coast premiere of the chamber musical by Tony Award winners Stephen Flaherty and Frank Galati, adapted from the writings of Gertrude Stein. A musical about loving life, loving thinking, loving making art, and loving love, Loving Repeating explores Stein's capricious love affair with language, self expression, and her lifelong companion, Alice B. Toklas. Following Stein from her student days in the late 19th century to the height of her artistic era in Paris as one of the 'lost generation,' the distinctive score illuminates Stein's world, bringing fresh perspective to her poetic texts and illuminating her deep love of the way American language perpetually changes to reflect the voices of the people. A perplexing, exhilarating, hilarious, and emotionally giddy musical as unique as Stein herself.

FREE - A whimsical comedy that explores the boundaries of friendship and gravity. Without the aid of mechanical devices, we can only slip the bonds of Earth in our dreams and imaginations. But no one seems to have told that to Marshall 'Free' Gunther. Free is a floater who has to work at keeping himself tethered to the ground. He wants more than anything to be normal, but best friend Stoney thinks Free's gift is a miracle that everyone should see. When Free decides he would rather clean motel rooms than defy gravity for indifferent audiences, he finds that the gift he doesn't want has touched more lives than he realized.

Rehearsals for the new musical production Doctor Zhivago began in Sydney today, with the full cast assembled for the first time. The creative team, a mix of US and Australian, were thrilled with the excitement and energy in the rehearsal room. Director Des McAnuff Jersey Boys arrived in Australia from Canada just before Christmas to commence rehearsals, and others had flown in from the US including composer Lucy Simon, choreographer Kelly Devine, music supervisor Eric Stern, orchestrator Danny Troob and US co-producer Anita Waxman.

Upholding its annual resolution to present provocative new plays by the Bay, Berkeley Repertory Theatre begins the new year by dishing up a pair of daring shows. The New York Times heralded Mike Daisey as 'the master storyteller' and 'one of the finest solo performers of his generation.' His monologues, 15 and counting, have been seen across the country and around the globe. Now Daisey returns to Berkeley Rep for an incredible doubleheader: The Last Cargo Cult and The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs.

For the first time, a Disney production will come to life on the Way Off Broadway stage when Disney's 101 Dalmatians Kids opens on January 29th kicking off the new season.

Comedian Steve Solomon brings his hysterical one-man comedy My Mother's Italian, My Father's Jewish, and I'm in Therapy to the Aronoff Center's Jarson-Kaplan Theater from Friday, February 11 to Sunday, February 13. The show is part of the Cincinnati Arts Association's 2010-11 'Let's Play' Season.

Sherri Shepherd, co-host of The View, attended Saturday night's 9:30 p.m. performance of Jabbawockeez critically-acclaimed new show 'MUS.I.C' at Monte Carlo Resort and Casino. Following the show, Shepherd met the world-famous dance crew on-stage for photos.
