There might be no better place for a university for music and arts than in the heart of Vienna, surrounded by historical buildings where the greatest composers of all time have been strolling around. Unsurprisingly, many now-famous musical actors, like the latest newcomer, Moritz Mausser (ROCK ME AMADEUS's Leading Man), were trained at this prestigious institution. Getting the chance to see future graduates perform in front of an audience is something you definitely can't miss. Seeing the (potential) future of Musical Theatre is always worth a visit.

The 3rd year students got the opportunity to present WORKing, a Musical based on Louis "Studs" Terkel's Oral Histories of ordinary Americans. Univ.-Prof.In Mag. Alexandra Riener (Head of Programme) challenged her proteges in many good. We jumped right into the scene when we entered the theatre, with no curtain and no usual auditorium where you can hide in the dark.

Working, the revised 2012 version with music from Craig Carnelia, James Taylor, Mary Rodgers, Micki Grant, Stephen Schwartz, Susan Birkenhead, and Lin-Manuel Miranda, translated into German by Judith Behrens and Martin Wessels-Behrens, is a tour de force for the aspiring artists. It is neither easy to sing nor perform, with no break in between. Franziska Geprägs, Linda Seefried, Anna Täuber, Sarah Weidinger, Felix Fügner, Aeneas Hollweg, Timotheus Hollweg, and Jan Unger created an entertaining evening, earning tears and cheers.

There is no business like show business, and there is no better way to learn than testing yourself in front of a live audience. Challenge yourself, and you will grow to unimaginable highs. The 3rd years have shown some solid performances in such an intimate framing. Nothing, not even a lady answering her phone (what an unbelievably irreverent behavior), stopped the young professionals from giving it all to present the musical oral histories. We witnessed promising talents, and who knows, one or the other might be a future leading lady or man.

WORKing is playing on December 15, 18, 19, and 20(Matinee) at the MUK theater, but you have to grab your tickets ASAP.

Team:

 Alex. Riener, Director

Lior Kretzer, Musical Director

Christoph Riedl, Choreography

Petra Fibich, Stage Desing

Sigrid Dreger, Costume Design
