WOMEN IN ARMS Opens 11/12 at Berry College
A play that is a collection of Irish mythological legends, "Women in Arms" opens Nov. 12 at Berry College.
The performances will be Nov. 12-14 and Nov. 19 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 15 and Nov. 22 at 2 p.m.
"Women in Arms" centers on the Ulster Cycle, a collection of Irish legends. The play puts a feminist twist to some old tales by retelling the classic Irish stories from the perspective of the heroines. Great for fans of strong female character and Irish mythology, the play focuses on four women-Nessa, Macha, Deirdre and Maeve. Defying the mythology's norms, the women are portrayed as strong, autonomous, articulate and witty instead of mere passive victims.
The play was written by Mary Elizabeth Burke-Kennedy and uses modern phrasing to bring new life to the Irish classics. The play was nominated for the Susan Smith-Blackburn Memorial Prize for women playwrights and has received praise from critics and audiences alike. Despite being performed multiple times in Ireland, Berry's performance will be the show's American premiere.
Tickets may be reserved in advance and purchased at the door. For more information, contact the Box Office at (706) 236-2263.
