Synchronicity Theatre will open its 20th season with Kate Hamill's playful new adaptation of Jane Austen's beloved novel, Sense and Sensibility. The story follows the fortunes (and misfortunes) of the Dashwood sisters, Elinor and Marianne, after their father's sudden death leaves them financially destitute and socially vulnerable. Performances will run September 22, 2017 to October 15, 2017. For tickets or more information, please visit synchrotheatre.com or call 404-484-8636.

Set in gossipy late 18th-century England, this adaptation is full of humor, emotional depth, and bold theatricality. Sense and Sensibility examines our reactions, both reasonable and ridiculous, to societal pressures.

Rachel May, Synchronicity's co-founder and producing artistic director, chose this play to start the 20th season off with a bang. "This title," she says, "is a crowd-pleaser, and everyone loves a period drama. But, this adaptation is so fresh, honest, playful and theatrical. it will get you seeing Jane Austen in a whole new light. And for purists, the play is a wonderfully faithful take on a longtime favorite. I'm thrilled to delight our regular audiences, but attract a whole new crowd that we hope to bring along for the entire season."

Playwright Kate Hamill originated the role of Marianne, the romantically inclined and eagerly expressive second daughter, in the play's Off-Broadway world premiere. Her highly acclaimed adaptation has been called "the greatest stage adaptation of this novel in history" (Huffington Post), "inventive" (The New York Times), and "one of the best things ever seen on stage" (The Washington Post).

The play is directed by Synchronicity's producing artistic director, Rachel May, and features 10 actors - five women and five men - Shelli Delgado as Elinor, Jennifer Schottstaedt as Marianne, Justin Walker as Edward Ferrars, Bryant Smith as Col. Brandon, and Marcello Audino as John Willoughby. The cast also includes Rachel Mewbron (Fanny) Robert Hindsman (Mrs. Jennings), Marcie Millard (Mrs. Dashwood), Michelle Pokopac (Lucy) and J.L. Reed (John Dashwood).

Show times for Sense and Sensibility are Wednesday - Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 5 p.m. All performances will be at Synchronicity Theatre in Midtown Atlanta's Peachtree Pointe complex. Single ticket prices range from $26 to $46 and are available online at synchrotheatre.com.

Audiences attending the show can receive 10% off their final bill by showing their ticket stubs at Tavernpointe, across the lobby from the theatre.
