Theatergoers of all ages invited to downtown Lawrenceville for camps, comedy nights and more summer fun!

Aurora Theatre is splashing into a summer of fun with a variety of special programs! With the kids out of school, parents can breathe easy with Aurora Theatre's Children's Playhouse series, featuring Flamenco Fantástico and SHREW! by the Atlanta Shakespeare Company. Older kids who dream of the stage can sharpen their skills in one of the many offerings from Aurora Theatre Academy's Summer Camps.

Teatro Aurora, Atlanta's only professional Spanish language theatre, brings the rhythm of Latin jazz to the stage with Canto: Songs from Spain and Latin America, while adult theatergoers can prepare for a side-splitting good time with a slew of local comedians, including Star 94's Jeff Dauler and Q100's Brian Moote during Aurora Summer Comedy Nights. For those who love shows under the starry sky, In The Heights is heading to the Duluth Town Green for a special, one-night-only performance. Plus, Lawrenceville Ghost Tours continue to bring out the boo-s with year-round history and mystery for all who enjoy a good scare. With the massive variety of offerings all month long, Aurora Theatre is making waves with fun for everyone!

Aurora Children's Playhouse: Summer Edition 2017
Wednesdays in June at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Aurora Theatre brings the best children's performers in the region to Gwinnett County, including puppeteers, magicians, storytellers, jugglers and musicians, as a part of this series intended for youngsters to have their first theatrical experience. Parents and their children will witness world-class artistry in Aurora's amazing facility in downtown Lawrenceville. At roughly 45 minutes long, these lively performances are designed perfectly for the young attention span but are fun for the whole family. Flamenco Fantástico for Kids by Caló Gitano

Filled with music and high energy feats of skill, children will be mesmerized by Flamenco Fantástico for Kids. More than just a dance performance, this interactive experience takes audiences on a journey to Spain and an exploration of the history of its people through dance. Caló Gitano seeks to connect with children and maintain their attention through his performance by presenting a lively show that is personable, relatable, funny and interactive at all times. Audiences of all ages should get set for an animated and energetic flamenco presentation that will have them saying "olé" all day!

S4K: SHREW! by The Atlanta Shakespeare Company

SHREW! is Atlanta Shakespeare Company's fun and wacky take on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew. This production, designed especially for children ages five and up, is filled with music, mayhem, some friendly sock puppets, crazy costumes, a magic "plot easel" named Pleasel and a special show robot aptly named "Sho-bot." This production will strip away all that seems unapproachable about the Bard and get right to the whimsy and wonder of the timeless comedy. Be warned: kids may even leave quoting some Shakespeare and singing in the aisles!

The Great Pirate Race by Story Ship

This story follows a young boy lost at sea who is found by a baboon on a faraway island and raised by a circus of misfits. The audience and cast of characters help the boy overcome personal challenges and discover his destiny. With the help of a little magic, characters emerge right out of the screen as real life puppets! The show combines hilarious puppetry, beautiful animation, spellbinding magic and wonderful music with tremendous audience interaction to make for a nautical good time!

Blockbuster Musical Announcement Party
Monday, June 18 at 7 p.m.
Aurora is having a party with fun and fanfare! Join Aurora Theatre for a big unveiling of their 2018 Blockbuster musical along with hors d'oeuvres, a cash bar and sneak-peek, live performances from the show on the Aurora mainstage. All are invited to this free event where the show will be announced and guests can dance the night away! Additionally, patrons can play the "Take A Chance Guessing Game" by submitting their best guesses for the TBA musical for a chance to win dinner and tickets to Jeff Dauler and Friends on June 24. Filled with pulsating Caribbean rhythms, vibrant hip-hop and lyrical melodies, this highly-acclaimed musical is a universal story of a Latin community in New York's Washington Heights - a place where the coffee from Usnavi's corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the brink of change. Like his community, Usnavi struggles to decide which traditions to keep and which to leave behind in his quest for a place called home. This Tony and Grammy award-winning show was also the 2016 recipient of three Suzi Bass Awards. Free to the public as part of Duluth Art Week, the show will be held on the Festival Center Stage. The whole family is welcome to attend and enjoy a picnic dinner (cooler with drinks are perfectly acceptable) during the performance. Beer and wine will also be on-site for purchase. Fish Eye takes a slightly skewed look at four intertwining lives as audiences are invited to wade through their memories. A New Brain is a musical that follows the story of Gordon Schwinn, a struggling, frustrated songwriter who suffers from a rare brain disorder that causes him to hallucinate about a tyrannical singing, dancing frog, amongst other things. This brainy musical stars Daniel Hilton, Rose Alexander, Caty Bergmark, Robert Lee Hindsman, Hayden Rowe, Jenise Cook, Elliot Folds, Laura Spears, Ashley Prince, Tad Cameron and Abi Sneathen.

Aurora Theatre Academy Summer Camps
For kids to whom the world is a stage, Aurora Theatre Summer Camp is the place to be! With top-notch training for grades one through 12, Aurora Theatre Academy will prepare students of all skill levels to perform like professionals. Participants can learn from an incredible team of Atlanta-area teaching pros, many who have also frequented the screen from Georgia Lottery commercials to HBO. Located on the square in downtown Lawrenceville, all classes will culminate in a showcase in Aurora's exquisite facility. Musical Mashup Camp (Grades 3 - 8)
July 10 -21 from 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Tuition $500 per camper
Students from grades three through eight will spend two weeks singing, acting and dancing in preparation for a musical cabaret performance with this fun, stomp-your-feet camp for all skill levels! Aftercare from 4-6 p.m. is available for purchase.

Elementary School Camps

Camp Aurora gives students the opportunity to spend a week at Aurora to learn what it takes to put on a performance. This production class will provide students with valuable stage experience, while encouraging teamwork and collaboration with peers and instilling a sense of self-confidence. During these half-day sessions, students will be active participants in creating portions of the sets, costumes and props for exciting, whirlwind productions presented to family and friends. Students may choose from morning and afternoon sessions on June 26 through June 30 or July 10 through 14. For the June sessions, campers may opt to do both morning and afternoon sessions and stay for lunch in between.

Aurora's Bilingual Camp (Grades 1-5)
July 17-21 from 10:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Tuition $300 per camper
This production class will provide students with stage experience that translates to real life skills, building teamwork and cooperation with peers in a bilingual environment. In these full-day sessions, students will be active participants in character creations for these exciting, whirlwind productions of fairytales from Hispanic Culture presented to family and friends! Aftercare from 4-6 p.m. is available for purchase.

Middle School Camps

Guerrilla Theatre Camp (Grades 6-8)
June 26 -30 from 10:30 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Tuition $300 per camper
Guerrilla Theatre Camp breaks the boundaries of the stage and brings theatre to students in fun and engaging ways. Campers can learn many of the styles that shatter the convention of the fourth wall, from commedia dell'arte to improv comedy to flash mobs. This camp is tons of fun and kids would have to be "bananas" to miss out!

Acting Edge Camp (Grades 6-8)
July 10-21 from 10:30 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Tuition $500 per camper
With this program, budding thespians can explore the craft of acting through various styles: Stanislavski, Shakespeare, stage combat, improvisation classes and more! This two-week camp will culminate with a performance of Treasure Island for friends and family to see! The option for aftercare from 4-6 p.m. is available for purchase.
