As BroadwayWorld previously reported, after receiving the news that her mother has suffered from a severe stroke, Whoopi Goldberg left the West End production of SISTER ACT on Friday August 27, to be with her family. Today, the actress, producer and television personality announced on The View that her mother passed away on August 29.

The role of ‘Mother Superior’ was played by Goldberg's understudy through Thursday September 2. As planned, Sally Dexter (Billy Elliot, Dalliance, Oliver!) has stepped into the part and will perform in the role through the show's West End closing on October 30.

“Sister Act” continues its successful run at The London Palladium. For tickets and more information, visit www.sisteractthemusical.com/.
