Benevolent (Off-Bway, 9/5/2026)
Good Apples Collective will present the World Premiere production of Sophie McIntosh's benevolent, directed by Nina Goodheart at IATI's Main Theater (64 East 4th Street New York, NY 10003), August 14-September 5. Set in 1917, benevolent follows four inmates consigned to Inwood Benevolent Home, a draconian reformatory for fallen and friendless girls. They forge unlikely connections as they pass their days on laundry duty, and, when one of their group finds herself in trouble, the others must decide how much they're willing to risk to help her.
Public Record (Off-Bway, 9/8/2026)
New Yorkers from all five boroughs are coming together to create a live album—on stage, in real time. PUBLIC RECORD, based on a concept by Dan Canham and Emily Lim, brings Public Works community members, musicians, and dancers into a cast of over 100 to capture how our city sings, moves, and tells its story in this moment. Written by Lisa Sanaye Dring, with music supervision by Michael Thurber, direction by Emily Lim, and co-direction and choreography by Dan Canham, this electrifying new production stands as an act of collective hope, joy, and resistance. The album will be preserved by the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts forever, ensuring that long after summer fades, it will remain a powerful reminder that the true record of a city isn’t just its headlines—it’s the sound of neighbors standing side by side.

Safe House is a family drama set in the days leading up to a U.S. presidential election. QUEEN FOR A DAY (Off-Bway, 9/14/2026)
American fashion designer Halston is down on his luck. He's packing up his chic-as-hell Olympic Tower office for reasons he doesn't want to discuss. To make matters worse, Elizabeth I is knocking on his door. Yes, Elizabeth I, whose reign as Queen of England ended in 1603. But it's 1984 in New York City. All that time spent at Studio 54 might be starting to catch up to him. Elizabeth I demands that he make her a new gown to die in. Oh, and she needs it by the end of the day. Halston agrees, and the unlikely pair moves forward with the design of a lifetime. That is, until Halston’s best friend, Liza Minnelli, shows up seeking help with her new act.

La Femme’s updated production, featuring an unpublished second act, marks the first New York revival of this sharp-witted play by the trailblazing Pulitzer Prize-winning Wendy Wasserstein, who was the first woman to win the Tony Award for Best Play as a solo playwright.
The Ford/Hill Project (Off-Bway, 9/20/2026)
The Ford/Hill Project transforms the verbatim Senate testimony of Anita Hill and Christine Blasey Ford into a gripping, meticulously crafted evening of theater. Created by Next Wave favorite Lee Sunday Evans (HOME, Farmhouse/Whorehouse, FOOD) with Elizabeth Marvel, this Waterwell production channels the historical record through a four-person ensemble, illuminating the emotional weight and historical significance of these pivotal hearings. Thirty years apart, Hill and Ford shared personal, painful experiences on a national stage, speaking with clarity and courage in the face of scrutiny and skepticism. After suffering a stroke at 30 caused by a literal hole in her heart, comedian Cat Cohen transforms this near-death experience into a wildly funny, song-filled one-woman show about mortality, hypochondria and the undeniable thrill of being the main character. Equal parts confessional comedy and sparkling musical cabaret, Broad Strokes is Cohen at her sharpest, funniest, and most fabulously vulnerable.
The Cherry Orchard (Off-Bway, 9/26/2026)
Considered one of the great plays of the modern era, Anton Chekhov’s final play about a family on the edge of ruin is radically reimagined by acclaimed director and dramatist Simon Stone, who returns to the Armory following his blistering Obie-Award winning take on Federico García Lorca’s Yerma (2018). His refreshing adaptation resets the action from Russia to a rapidly transforming modern-day Seoul, South Korea, where the original noble siblings are now corporate heirs struggling to adapt to a world that has moved on without them, suffocated by a rising middle class and wealthy self-made entrepreneurs. Caught between the past and the present, hope and despair, tradition and innovation, the chaebol family is forced to grapple with the inevitable forces of change.
AMERICA, WHO HURT YOU? (Off-Bway, 9/27/2026)
In a nation divided by competing narratives, who gets to tell the story of America? Tony Award winner Sarah Jones returns to the New York stage with a virtuosic new solo show directed by OBIE winner Eric Ting (The Comeuppance) that is hilarious, provocative, and deeply human. Through her singular blend of comedy, storytelling, and transformation, she invites us to reckon with the myths we inherit, the realities we share, and the future we are creating together.
Spandex: The Musical (Off-Bway, 9/27/2026)
Tiffany stars as Linda Gufstafson, a housewife who befriends Lorraine Stubenski (Sims Lamason), a former gymnastics prodigy turned aerobics instructor. Lorraine teaches a class at Bronze Bodies Gym, run by the menacing and poorly mulleted Trip Allen. The cast also features Catherine Ashmore Bradley (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on Broadway, Nickelodeon’s “The Really Loud House”) as Lorraine’s protégé, Dori Jenson. Together, the three women take on Trip Allen in the only place he may yet be vulnerable: the 1988 Crystal Light National Aerobics Championship, hosted by Alan Thicke. Half The Karate Kid underdog story, half A Chorus Line, and two-thirds viral video that inspired a nation, Spandex The Musical more than adds up, honoring the world’s greatest aerobic athletes and the outfits they donned.
