Jonathan Groff is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical.
It was just a year ago that Jonathan Groff took the stage at the David Koch Theatre to accept his first Tony Award for his performance in Merrily We Roll Along. If it happens again this year, he would be the first person to ever win back-to-back Tonys in the Lead Actor category.
Groff is playing legendary crooner Bobby Darin in Just in Time- a show he developed alongside director Alex Timbers. "It feels like it's taken 8 years to get this show to the audience. This is who it's always been for," he told BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge. "This music means so much to people. Bobby Darin, Connie Francis, Sandra Dee mean so much to a generation of people. It's a spiritual experience in that theatre bringing this show to an audience."
Watch as Jonathan chats more about recreating Darin's life onstage, the process of developing the show from nothing, and so much more. Plus, check out who he is up against and catch up on all the latest Tony Awards coverage!
The 78th Annual Tony Awards will air on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
