Daniel Dae Kim is nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play.
Did you know that for his performance in Yellow Face, Daniel Dae Kim has become the first Asian American actor to be nomated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play in Tony Awards history? His nomination comes almost a decade after he made his Broadway debut in the Lincoln Center Theatre revival of The King and I.
"The themes and story [of this play] were important. When we're talking about the way we look as defining whether we are American or not, it's a question that is very topical and relevant literally today," he told BroadwayWorld's Richard Ridge. "Even though the play was written in the early 2000s, the fact that in 2025 it seems more relevant tells you how special this story is."
Watch as Daniel chats more about the joys of performing onstage, why this role meant so much to him, and so much more. Plus, check out who he is up against and catch up on all the latest Tony Awards coverage!
The 78th Annual Tony Awards will air on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
