VIDEO: STRANGER THINGS' Catherine Curtin Stars in Jimmy Lopez + Kevin Newbury's 'Epiphany V'

In the holiday season when matters of family, spirituality, identity, and survival are often acute, EPIPHANY V - a gay fantasia in the form of a classical music-driven short film - explores these tender issues through a uniquely queer lens. EPIPHANY V blends a gorgeous orchestral score by Jimmy López and masterful direction by Kevin Newbury (the team behind Lyric Opera of Chicago's Bel Canto) with captivating movement and stunning videography. Released today by an award-winning, openly gay creative team, the 7-minute video stars Catherine Curtin (Netflix's Stranger Things 2 & Orange is the New Black, HBO's Insecure), Reed Luplau (Natasha Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 on Broadway, the film Five Dances), and Cole Horibe (The King and I on Broadway, So You Think You Can Dance). The haunting story follows a Young Man (Luplau) at the bedside of his ailing mother (Curtin) as the scene transforms into a journey through a dark forest, culminating in an encounter on a moonlit dance floor. A mysterious Death figure arrives, and tries to seduce the Young Man through dance and music but as Death (Horibe) invites him to stay, the Young Man is faced with a heartbreaking dilemma.

Ravishing and dramatic, EPIPHANY V was created by renowned director Kevin Newbury (Fellow Travelers, Kansas City Choir Boy with Courtney Love), celebrated composer Jimmy López, choreographer Larry Keigwin (Founder and Artistic Director, Keigwin and Company), producer Matthew Principe (Associate Producer, Metropolitan Opera), writer David Johnston (the GLAAD-media award winning play Candy & Dorothy and the short film Monsura is Waiting, both directed by Newbury and produced by Principe), and executive producer Heleno Leitao (the non-profit Epiphany Foundation for the Arts).
