Two Broadway newcomers who made stunning first impressions recently teamed up to create a sumptuous combination of their artistry to the tune of George and Ira Gershwin's PORGY AND BESS classic, "Summertime."

Cynthia Erivo, 2016's Best Actress in a Musical Tony-winner for her performance as Celie in THE COLOR PURPLE, posted on Instagram a few wondrous moments of her and American Ballet Theatre's Misty Copeland.

"Sometimes different forms of art collide to create one," Erivo writes. "I make music with my voice and @MistyOnPointe used it to paint pictures with her body."

She thanks Cosmopolitan Magazine for bringing them together.

Erivo got her first big musical theatre break in Kneehigh Theatre's production of THE UNBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG at the Gielgud Theatre, followed by the starring role of Deloris Van Cartier in the UK tour of SISTER ACT. She appeared in the West End as Chenice in Harry Hill and Simon Cowell's musical I CAN'T SING at the London Palladium and also played the leading role of Dessa in the European premiere of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty musical Dessa Rose at Trafalgar Studios.

Misty Copeland, who made her Broadway debut last summer in the latest revival of ON THE TOWN, is currently in her first season as principal dancer with American Ballet Theatre and has signed on to Disney's live action THE NUTCRACKER AND THE FOUR REALMS, based on the classic holiday story.

The new Broadway revival of The Color Purple opened December 10, at the Bernard B. JacobsTheatre (242 W 45th Street). Based on Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize winning novel and the Warner Bros. / Amblin Entertainment motion picture,THE COLOR PURPLE is adapted for the stage by Pulitzer Prize and Tony award winner Marsha Norman, with music and lyrics by Grammy award winners Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray. The show won the 2016 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.

Best Actress Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo leads a powerhouse cast led by Tony and Grammy winner Heather Headley (Aida, The Lion King) and Orange is the New Black's Danielle Brooks in "the kind of heaven-sent debut that dreams are made of" (Entertainment Weekly).

THE COLOR PURPLE is an unforgettable story of enduring love and triumph over adversity. With a fresh, joyous score of jazz, ragtime, gospel and blues, this stirring family chronicle follows the inspirational Celie, as she journeys from childhood through joy and despair, anguish and hope to discover the power of love and life.
