As reported by BroadwayWorld, Avenue Q joined in New York's Pride weekend celebration last night when puppet stars Rod and Ricky renewed their vows onstage after the performance.

Rod, an uptight Wall Street banker, and Ricky, a free-spirited Chelsea Boy, meet through an online personal ad placed by Rod's best friend and slacker roommate Nicky. That moment is relived at every performance of the Tony Award-winning musical.

The couple were wed as legally as puppets could be on July 24, 2011, when the New York State Legislature passed the Marriage Equality Act, making same-sex marriage legal. It was signed by Governor Andrew Cuomo that same day.

Of course, the Broadway community was thrilled and delighted with the news, and cast members from ALADDIN, BRIGHT STAR, BEAUTIFUL, FINDING NEVERLAND, FIDDLER ON THE ROOF, KINKY BOOTS, LES MISERABLES and WAITRESS, as well as the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes, wished the loving couple a Happy Fifth Anniversary!

AVENUE Q has music and lyrics by Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx, book by Jeff Whitty, and is directed by Jason Moore with choreography by Ken Roberson. The musical is produced by Kevin McCollum, Robyn Goodman, Jeffrey Seller, Vineyard Theatre and The New Group.
