There's a good reason why The Music Box Theatre is among Broadway's more intimate houses. Original co-owner Irving Berlin was tired of having his songs overwhelmed by the grand spectacle when they were introduced in Ziegfeld revues, so he wanted a smaller venue for intimate shows where audience members would be more focused on his music and lyrics.

Berlin's series of MUSIC BOX REVUES introduced standards like "Easter Parade" and "Heat Wave," but ironically, because of its size, the theatre is more frequently used for non-musical plays these days.

Its current tenant, Mike Bartlett's KING CHARLES III, certainly makes music with its spoken blank verse.

The Queen is dead. After a lifetime of waiting, Prince Charles ascends the throne. A future of power lies before him...but how to rule? Winner of the 2015 Olivier Award for Best New Play, King Charles IIIis the "bracingly provocative and outrageously entertaining" (The Independent) drama of political intrigue by Mike Bartlett that comes to Broadway following a sensational West End run. Directed by Rupert Goold and deemed "the most insightful and engrossing new history play in decades" by Ben Brantley of The New York Times, this "bold and brilliant" (The Times of London) production explores the people underneath the crowns, the unwritten rules of Britain's democracy and the conscience of its most famous family.
