A private, developmental reading of Medusa: a new musical by Wes Braver and Rachel Dean will be presented on February 26 and 27 in Manhattan.

Thousands of years ago, Medusa was the original silence breaker. She stood up and called out her rapist-Poseidon, god of the ocean- but as punishment for her accusations was turned into a monster with snakes for hair. People were told not to look at her, or they would be turned to stone. Medusa the musical shakes up an ancient tragedy with a dark, energetic score full of rap, jazz, and rock, and gives modern language to this infuriatingly relevant myth.

The reading will be directed by Catie Davis and music directed by Matt Castle. The cast will be led by Keziah Niambi (The Book of Mormon), Julia Murney (Wicked), Mike McGowan (The Book of Mormon; Priscilla, Queen of the Desert), Eric Badiqué, Elizabeth Ward Land (Amazing Grace, Memphis), Mykal Kilgore (Motown: The Musical), Ally Bonino (Dogfight), with Vivienne Cleary, Diana Huey (The Little Mermaid Nat'l Tour), Eddy Lee (Hamilton), Patty Nieman, Jonathan Rayson (Little Shop of Horrors), and Frank Galgano. The reading will be produced by Sylvie Scowcroft and Hayden 5. The stage manager is Alannah O'Hagan.
