New This Week...

Episode #321
THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS

We discuss Kander and Ebb's latest work, The Scottsboro Boys. The musical, now at New York's Vineyard Theater, tells the story of the tragic real-life 1930's case in Alabama where 9 young black men were tried and imprisoned for a crime they didn't commit. Our panel includes composer John Kander (Fred Ebb died in 2004 while working on this musical), director Susan Stroman, and two actors featured in the production, Colman Domingo and Brandon Victor Dixon. Dixon performs one of the numbers from the show's beautiful score. (Uplink available March 18.)

Waking SLEEPING BEAUTY

Guests producer Peter Schneider and writer/reporter Patrick Pacheco come by to discuss their new documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty. The film tells the story of the phoenix-like rise of the Walt Disney Animation Studios in the late 1980's and the company's corporate egos (Michael Eisner, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Roy Disney, and Schneider himself) that almost sent it crashing back to earth. (Uplink available March 25.)

Janeane Garofalo and Carol Kane:
Love, Loss, and What I Wore; plus
"The Aughts" in Review

Actresses Janeane Garofalo and Carol Kane visit to talk about their participation in Delia and Nora Ephron's Love, Loss, and What I Wore. This hit theatrical event uses clothing and accessories and the memories they trigger to tell funny and often poignant stories.

Also on the program, we look back at the previous decade with Jesse Green of New York Magazine, Michael Musto of The Village Voice, and Patrick Pacheco of the Los Angeles Times. They discuss the highlights, lowlights, and significance of the works presented on Broadway between 2000 and 2009. (Uplink available April 1.)
