The Secret Theatre And Ript Theater Company Announce Co-Production Of HAMLET

The Secret Theatre (Richard Mazda, Artistic Director) and Ript Theater Company (Nathan Winkelstein, Artistic Director) today announced that their 2018-'19 season will kick off with a new adaptation of William Shakespeare's Hamlet, which will run September 13th - 30th (7:30 PM evenings, 2:00 PM matinees) at The Secret Theatre (44-02 23rd Street, Long Island City, NY 11101).

Red Bull Associate Producer and Ript Theater Company Founder Nathan Winkelstein (Government Inspector), leads an exceptional cast that features Lindsay Alexandra Carter (Rosalind-The Folger Theater), Ade Otukoya (Shades of Blue), and St Louis Circle Award two time nominee Chauncy Thomas (Labute New Theater Festival). Hamlet is directed by Nathan Winkelstein, and assistant directed/movement directed by Cat Yudain, with sound design by Alan Waters, lighting design by Paul Kennedy and costumes by Sarah Marie Dixey.

William Shakespeare's plays have been captivating audiences for four centuries. He is routinely the most produced playwright of the year, and perhaps his most famous work is Hamlet, the story of brooding prince seeking to avenge his father's death. This 90-minute adaptation focuses on the family tragedy at the core of Shakespeare's most seminal work. Four performers embody all of the characters in this innovative new production; a fast paced, non-stop whirlwind of mind and body as rational thought battles with hysteria.

The performances of Hamlet (What Dreams May Come) will begin on Thursday, September 13th at 7:30 PM, followed by complimentary sparkling spirits with the cast to toast Ript Theater Company and their inaugural production. The production will run through September 30th at The Secret Theatre. Tickets for this production will be $25 and can be bought HERE.

Cast: Nathan Winkelstein* (Hamlet), Chauncy Thomas* (Claudius, Polonius, Player King, Ghost), Ade Otukoya (Laertes, Horatio, Lead Player, Gravedigger, Ghost), Lindsay Alexandra Carter* (Gertrude, Ophelia, Player Queen, Osric, Ghost). We believe in the power of the words of the great classicists, be they Shakespeare, Moliere, Aphra Behn or Euripedes to move us and deepen our understanding of our world and our times.

RIPT THEATER COMPANY derives its name from the First Folio spelling of Ripped - A word defined as 'cut open' or 'removed by cutting out.' These two definitions define us as company. We pursue vulnerable, fast-paced, high-stakes performances through intensive, yet judicious, cuts of scripts to fit the modern day and our laser-sharp focus on the stakes and emotional lives of our characters.
