After selling out its run at the New York International Fringe Festival, Martin Cassela's The Irish Curse will be presented in an added performance at the Soho Playhouse (15 Van Damn St.) on Tuesday, August 23rd at 10:30 PM.

Helmed by Matt Lenz (associate director of Hairspray, director of the national tour of The Who's Tommy), the show stars Roderick Hill, Howard Kaye, Eddie Korbich, Brian Leahy and William McCauley, and features production design by Leon Joosen and original music by Steve Marzullo

"Rick, Joseph, Stephen and Kevin are all professionally successful New Yorkers who blame their failed relationships on a supposed ethnic attribute: the hated, humiliating and much obsessed-over 'Irish Curse.'  Every Wednesday night, in a church basement in Brooklyn Heights, the four men come together in a therapy session to bitch, moan and complain about this shortcoming they feel has ruined their lives. Then, one evening, a new guy, Kieran, who is even more desperate than the others, walks in.  By the end of the night, he will not only challenge everything the group has ever thought about themselves, but about the despised 'Irish Curse' as well," according to the show's production notes.

"From its blistering language to its brutally honest look at sex and body image, The Irish Curse is a revealing portrait of how men, and society, define masculinity.  In doing so, it dares to pose the fundamental question that has been on the minds of men since the beginning of time: 'Do I measure up to the next guy?'"

Casella is the author of the plays: Mates (L.A. Weekly Award and Drama-Logue Award for Best New Play); Paydirt; Desert Fire; The Big Enchilada.  He wrote the book for the musicals Paper Moon; Survival Crackers; Happy Holidays; Taking Care Of Mrs. Carroll, to only name a few.  His plays and musicals have been produced both nationally and internationally.  Casella has written for, optioned or sold screenplays to Steven Spielberg, Rob Reiner, Roger Corman, John Badham, Francis Ford Coppola, Herb Ross, The Walt Disney Company, Universal Pictures, Ladd Company and HBO and others.  His screenplay One Night Stand was directed by Talia Shire and starred Ally Sheedy and Frederic Forrest.  He also wrote the film Tom's Dad; "Behind The Lens" for CBS, and "Daddy's Girl", a comedy pilot for HBO; as well as for "One Life To Live."

Tickets for The Irish Curse's additional performance are on sale for only $15 general admission.  They can be purchased by calling 212 279-4488 or outside NY 1-888-FringeNYC  or through www.FringeNYC.org.
