The Canticum Novum Singers, Harold Rosenbaum, Conductor and Artistic Director, will present the 6 Bach Motets on Saturday, May 13 at 8:00 PM and Sunday, May 21 at 3:00 PM, with James Kennerley, organ at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church, 552 West End Avenue in Manhattan.

John Elliot Gardner has written, "Bach's motets are among the most perfect of all his works. Through their extraordinary complexity and density they make colossal demands of everyone who performs them, requiring stamina, exceptional virtuosity and sensitivity to the abrupt changes of mood and texture, as well as to the exact meaning of each word. With their skillful use of canon, fugue and counterpoint, the brilliant exploitation of double-choir sonorities and the tautness of their structural organization, each of them is challenging in its own way and endlessly fascinating. Above all they can touch the listener as well as the performer, revealing Bach's essentially compassionate nature, his dance-like joy in the praise of God and his total certitude in the contemplation of death."

Tickets for the May 13 concert are $25, $20 for students, available from www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2564138.

Tickets for the May 21 concert are also $25, $20 for students, available from www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2564140.

Tickets will also be available at the door. For MTA transportation information, visit tripplanner.mta.info/MyTrip/ui_web/customplanner/TripPlanner.aspx.
