Student Blog: Staying Focused as a Senior

Spring can be an insanely busy season. Especially as seniors in high school. My schedule is starting to get tighter and tighter as the school year comes to an end. However, I am still finding time for theatre and seeing shows. As I wrap my classes, most of my focus is starting to turn more towards everything theatre to keep me going.

As we get closer to graduation, I keep thinking about different theatre quotes that have been sticking in my head. The first one really resonates with me. “Where do we go? When we go. Will you remember me? Pretend I’m out at sea.” This is a lyric from the finale (Coda) of The Notebook. I think it’s a really nice quote that sticks with seniors. When you think about it, there are actually a lot of quotes from shows that can resonate with seniors.

In 2024, I started a theatre review account on Instagram to log and review the shows that I see. At first, it was a way to share my thoughts on the theatre in the Chicago area for fun. And now, I have started to do media for different theatres. After getting more and more invites to shows, I have started focusing more on the critic side of reviewing and reviewing shows. This has helped me become a stronger writer than before. Getting to work with these theatres has been an incredible experience and I can’t wait to see where this takes me next.

There have been a lot of great shows coming to Chicago recently, and there are even more great shows coming up. As we head into the summer, I can’t help but get more excited for Broadway in Chicago’s upcoming season! Some of my favorite shows that are included in the season include Maybe Happy Ending, Oh, Mary!, and Operation Mincemeat! When BIC announced that these shows were coming to Chicago, I knew that I’dd have to get tickets!

Finally, the thing that I am focusing on the most right now is my feature film, Maybe We’re Electric! This is a film adaptation based on the YA novel of the same name written by Val Emmich (The Reminders, Dear Evan Hansen). We wrapped filming a few weeks ago, but now it’s time to focus on the editing side of the film. This will take the longest, however it is one of my favorite parts of the filmmaking process.

Overall, even with everything getting busier with various senior events, I am still making sure to find time to focus on theatre. Congratulations to anyone graduating!
