Alan Ball, who had his roots in theatre before exploring the family tree of "Six Feet Under," saw his new play All That I Will Ever Be receive a workshop at the Dartmouth Department of Theater & the Hopkins Center on August 20th.

Jo Bonney (On the Mountain, Fat Pig) directed the play, which was presented as part of the New York Theatre Workshop Works-in-Progress summer series.  Ball described the play to Salon.com as "A twisted little look at cultural imperialism as refracted through a relationship between a trust-fund stoner and a male prostitute...It's really fun."

Ball's acclaimed, multi-Emmy Award-winning "Six Feet Under" recently ended its five year run on HBO.  Before that, he won an Oscar for his screenplay to American Beauty, a film with a bittersweet sensibility similar to that of "Six Feet Under," which followed the fortunes of a family that ran a funeral home.  Ball, who also wrote for "Grace Under Fire" and "Cybill," was the playwright of Five Women Wearing the Same Dress, which was produced by MCC Theater in 1993 with Allison Janney as its star.  Ball is developing another series for HBO (it's in its very early stages), and also has plans to direct his forthcoming adaptation of Alicia Erian's novel Towelhead.
