Sarah Jessica Parker, Blythe Danner Headline Amanda Peet's THE COMMONS OF PENSACOLA at Manhattan Theatre Club

Manhattan Theatre Club has just announced that Emmy and Tony award winner Blythe Danner and Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Sarah Jessica Parker will return to MTC at New York City Center - Stage I (131 West 55th Street) in the world premiere of The Commons of Pensacola, a new play by Amanda Peet, directed by MTC's award-winning artistic director Lynne Meadow. The limited engagement will begin previews Tuesday, October 22 and open Thursday, November 21.

Danner is currently appearing on Broadway in Nice Work If You Can Get It. She won a Tony in 1970 for Butterflies Are Free and has received Tony nominations for Betrayal, A Streetcar Named Desire, and Follies. She received back-to-back Emmy Awards for her role in Showtime's acclaimed series "Huff." Her many film roles include The Lucky One; Hello, I Must Be Going; and Meet The Parents.

Parker most recently appeared on the New York stage in MTC's 2001 production of Wonder of the World by David Lindsay-Abaire. Her other theatrical credits include The Substance of Fire, The Heidi Chronicles, Once Upon a Mattress, and Annie. She received four Golden Globe, three SAG Awards, and two Emmy Awards for her role as Carrie Bradshaw in HBO's "Sex and The City."

Danner and Parker reunite having previously starred together in MTC's 1995 hit production Sylvia by A.R. Gurney.

Judith (Blythe Danner) has been divested of her assets and forced to leave her luxurious New York life after her husband's Wall Street scam became headline news. When her daughter Becca (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Becca's filmmaker boyfriend pay Judith a visit to the one bedroom condo Judith now occupies in Pensacola, Florida, everyone's motives are called into question. How will past and present circumstances inform how this family moves into the future?

THE COMMONS OF PENSACOLA is an incisive and funny new play about trying to love your family even when you hate what they've done.

THE COMMONS OF PENSACOLA marks Peet's professional playwrighting debut. An accomplished and versatile actress, she is known for film roles including Something's Gotta Give and Igby Goes Down. Her stage credits include Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park, and roles in the Neil LaBute plays Break of Noon and This Is How It Goes. She'll next be seen in HBO's new series "Togetherness."

Meadow has been the visionary and artistic leader of Manhattan Theatre Club since 1972. She is currently represented on Broadway with the critically acclaimed world premiere of Richard Greenberg's The Assembled Parties. Last season, she directed Cynthia Nixon in her Tony nominated performance in the Broadway premiere of Wit which also received a Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Play.

THE COMMONS OF PENSACOLA is presented as part of MTC's 2013-2014 season, joining the previously announced world premiere production of THE SNOW GEESE by Sharr White, directed by Daniel Sullivan starring Emmy and Tony Award winner Mary-Louise Parker. Additional productions for the 2013-2014 season will be announced shortly.
