Samuel D. Hunter's GRANGEVILLE To Have LA Premiere At Ruskin Group Theatre
Director John Perrin Flynn helms the MacArthur Fellow's play about estranged brothers and forgiveness in Santa Monica.
Ruskin Group Theatre will present the Los Angeles premiere of GRANGEVILLE by Samuel D. Hunter, opening May 29 and running through July 19, 2026, in Santa Monica. The production is directed by John Perrin Flynn.
Hunter’s play centers on two estranged half-brothers — one living in rural Idaho and the other in Amsterdam — who reconnect through a series of virtual conversations while discussing decisions regarding their ailing mother’s care. The production explores themes of memory, family conflict, and forgiveness.
Director John Perrin Flynn said in a statement that the play examines the emotional impact of family relationships and the difficulty of moving forward after trauma. Flynn has previously directed three of Hunter’s plays.
Hunter recently made his Broadway debut with Little Bear Ridge Road and is the recipient of an Obie Award and a MacArthur Fellowship. His plays include THE WHALE, A CASE FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD, A BRIGHT NEW BOISE, and POCATELLO.
Tim Cummings stars as Arnie and Jeff LeBeau stars as Jerry. The creative team includes Stephanie Kerley Schwartz (Scenic and Costume Design), Dan Weingarten (Lighting Design), Keith Stevenson (Sound Design), Jan Bryant and Dan Speaker (Stunt/Fight Coordination), Nicole Millar, Stephanie Kerley Schwartz, and Ryan Wilson (Props), and Nicole Millar (Production Stage Manager).
