According to the New York Times, another delay in the opening of SPIDER-MAN: TURN OF THE DARK may be imminent. A sixth postponement is being considered by the producers of the $65 million musical.

Among the ideas being considered are postponing the opening until as late as June, turning the currently schedule March 15 opening performance into a celebration of the work done so far.
The management team of the show has already planned for the show on March 15 to be an invitation-only performance at 4:30 p.m., followed by an A-list gala at the Grand Hyatt New York, according to sources with knowledge of the deliberations.

On Saturday, , Rick Miramontez, a spokesman for the production, said only, "Opening night remains scheduled for March 15."

Sunday's matinee will be the 90th preview performance, a high number when most new musicals hold about 30 previews before opening. SPIDER-MAN is on track to set a record next Sunday for the most preview performances ever.

The sources said SPIDER-MAN producers were considering the delay because they saw no point in opening March 15 if the critics were going to return and write another round of negative reviews. Many critics may assume the creative team couldn't have had the time necessary to noticeably change the show.

A significant delay could keep SPIDER-MAN from competing in this year's Tony Awards. Shows must open by April 28 to be eligible for nominations.
