RoseDog Releases Camacho's TOURETTE STORM

By: Dec. 30, 2010

Tourette Storm: A Look Back in Time in Order to Forever Walk Forward, a new book by Guillermo Camacho, has been released by RoseDog Books.

Guillermo Camacho has suffered from moderate to severe Tourette Syndrome since 1993. Tourette Syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by multiple body and vocal "tics." These tics are very difficult to control. He takes many medications to control these involuntary movements.

There is no cure for Tourette. It is more common in males. Approximately 200,000 people in the United States have Tourette. It is also hereditary.

This book chronicles the author's battle with Tourette from 1991 to 2007. He has not been satisfied with how Tourette has been portrayed in the media and in the movies, so he decided to write his own account on what Tourette really is and how it has challenged him. Guillermo also discusses how the medications, stigma, misunderstandings, and ignorance surrounding this disorder motivated him to speak out for others. He wrote this book to bring about more awareness, education, and tolerance. He thought his struggle would inspire others. It is an honest account of how he overcame many obstacles. Despite having Tourette, Guillermo lives a very exciting and eventful life. He wanted to help people by painting the most raw yet accurate portrait of this horrendous disorder.

Throughout his book, Guillermo details his struggle with alcohol and "cutting" (self-mutilation). He has been sober for six years and has become more active. He has also traveled to many countries and met people with Tourette who have really enlightened him on the struggle with this disorder. He has also been in close communication with people who are self-injurious. Cutting can be relaxing and overwhelming but can also be controlled.

The author holds a B.A. in Latin American Studies with a minor in History from the Universtiy of Nevada, Las Vegas. He graduated in 1998. He has also studied at Missouri State University (formerly Southwest Missouri State University) and Ohio University. He currently resides in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Tourette Storm: A Look Back in Time in Order to Forever Walk Forward is a 134-page paperback with a retail price of $17.00. The ISBN is 978-1-4349-8175-2. It was published by RoseDog Books of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
