Following a two-year search, we are proud to announce the appointments of Marc Goldberg as Riverside Symphony's principal bassoonist and Gina Cuffari as the orchestra's second bassoonist. The search was initiated after our founding bassoonist, Lauren Goldstein, retired to Canada in 2007.

Marc Goldberg, one of our city's most formidable wind virtuosos, will assume his post with Riverside Symphony next season. He boasts a rich, dark tone, impeccable phrasing and a wonderful "feel" for style and character. Marc is currently a member of the New York Woodwind Quintet and principal bassoonist of Lincoln Center's Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra. He served as The New York Philharmonic's associate principal bassoonist from 2000-2002 and can often be heard with The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Orpheus, American Sym-phony and other top ensembles. He is a faculty member at The Juilliard School (his alma mater), Mannes College The New School for Music, Columbia University, The Hartt School, and the Bard College Conservatory of Music. A lifelong New Yorker, Marc lives in Westchester County with his wife, NYC Opera flutist Janet Arms, and their daughter, Jesse.

Gina Cuffari has been a superb component of Riverside Symphony's woodwind section for a number of seasons. Her sound and sensibility are the perfect complement to Marc's. She regularly plays with Orpheus, Westchester Philharmonic, and Long Island Philharmonic and also performs with the Orchestra of St. Luke's, Brooklyn Philharmonic, American Composers Orchestra, Opera Orchestra of NY, and American Ballet Theater. Gina is a founding member of the Scarborough Trio, which has performed extensively throughout the U.S. and garnered top prizes at national competitions. Gina teaches at New York University and Western Connecticut State University. She and her husband, pianist and organist Tom Cuffari, live in Stanford, Connecticut, and are expecting their first child any day (so if she's not onstage June 9th, you'll know why!).
