Remastered Sondheim CDs to Feature Bonus Tracks

New CD editions of four classic Stephen Sondheim musicals will be released by Masterworks Broadway this month.

On March 20th, the label will release digitally remastered CDs of Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the Park with George and Merrily We Roll Along.  With new liner notes written by Richard Jay-Alexander (Executive Producer, Les Miserables and Miss Saigon), the CDs will also feature bonus tracks.

Into the Woods, in which beloved fairy tale characters take journeys of self-discovery, features a score by Sondheim and a book by James Lapine. "Giants in the Sky" (sung by John Cameron Mitchell), "Back to the Palace" (Kim Crosby) and "Boom Crunch" (Maureen Moore) are the bonus tracks.  Into the Woods stars Bernadette Peters, Chip Zien, Joanna Gleason and more.  The suggested retail price is $13.98.

Sweeney Todd, the tale of a revenge-obsessed barber and his meat pie-baking assistant, features a score by Sondheim and a book by Hugh Wheeler.  The bonus tracks are: "Symphonic Sondheim: Sweeney Todd" (from "Sondheim: A Celebration at Carnegie Hall" with Eugene Perry, Henry Perry, Jerry Hadley and the American Theatre Orchestra conducted by Paul Gemignani), "Green Finch and Linnet Bird" (Harolyn Blackwell, "Sondheim: A Celebration at Carnegie Hall") and "Sweet Polly Plunkett" (Julie Andrews, Putting It Together).  Sweeney Todd stars Angela Lansbury and Len Cariou, among others. The suggested retail price is $24.98. 

"Putting It Together" (Putting It Together, performed by Julie Andrews, Stephen Collins, Rachel York, Michael Rupert and Christopher Durang) and "Sunday" (from "Sondheim: A Celebration at Carnegie Hall," with the Chorus and the American Theatre Orchestra) will be the bonus tracks of Sunday in the Park with George, a musical based on George Seurat's famed "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte" painting, features a score by Sondheim and book by Lapine.  It stars Bernadette Peters and Mandy Patinkin.  Suggested retail price is $13.98.

Merrily We Roll Along, which concerns three friends torn apart by show business success, features a score by Sondheim and a book by George Furth.  The CD features, among others, Lonny Price, Jim Walton and Ann Morrison.  The bonus tracks are: It's a Hit" (a demo from Sondheim's personal archives) and "Not a Day Goes By" (Bernadette Peters, from "Sondheim: A Celebration at Carnegie Hall").  $13.98 is the suggested retail price.
