Celebrating the 40 Anniversary of its founding in Colombia, Quintet of the Americas woodwind ensemble will perform a concert celebrating the life and music of Colombian composer Jorge Olaya Muñoz on Monday, November 7 at 7:00 PM at Salvation Army Temple, 86-07 35th Avenue in Jackson Heights, Queens, NY. The event is presented as part of Latin American Cultural Week 2016.

The program will include Jorge Olaya Muñoz' Dances (celebrating 100 years since the composers' birth), Harold Gutierrez's Retrospectives and Judah Adashi's Songs and Dances of Macondo, based on Gabriel Garcia Marquez' One Hundred Years of Solitude, and a special appearance by elementary school students from the P.S. 69 Ensemble, performing Harold Gutierrez' Dreamers' March with the quintet.

Internationally known Quintet of the Americas is Queens' own premiere woodwind quintet. Founded in Bogota, Colombia in 1976, the Quintet has specialized in bringing music from the Western hemisphere to audiences in the United States since its arrival in New York in 1979. The group has enjoyed an international career that has taken them to concert halls throughout the Americas and Eastern Europe, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Symphony Space, and the Library of Congress. Members of the Quintet are Karla Moe, flute, Matt Sullivan, oboe, Paul Won Jin Cho, clarinet, Barbara Oldham, horn, and Gina Cuffari, bassoon. They are currently in residence in The Department of Music and Performing Arts in The Steinhardt School at New York University.
