Stephen Tomlinson's play American Fiesta is currently making its New York Premiere at the Vineyard Theatre as the theatre's final production for the 2006-7 season. Previews started April 14 and opening night took place on April 26. Mark Brokaw (Vineyard's How I Learned to Drive, The Dying Gaul, and the Long Christmas Ride Home) directs.

"The play follows a collector of Fiestaware in his travels across a divided nation. His startling encounters with so-called 'blue' and 'red' state residents, as well as his own family when he announces his intention to marry his same-sex partner, make for a funny, powerful take on the cultural and political differences in contemporary America," state press materials.

American Fiesta marks the New York stage debut of Austin, Texas native Tomlinson. The show debuted in Austin and won the American Theatre Critics Association "Osborn Award" for Best Play by an up-and-coming playwright.
