On Thursday, March 27th the musical Gypsy opened at the St. James Theater. The after party was held at the club "The Mansion".

Gypsy tells the dramatic musical tale of the legendary stage mother of Gypsy Lee Rose and June Havoc, a woman who drove her two daughters into show business with a misguided and terrifiying passion. The classic musical is a journey that travels from the slowly fading vaudeville venues of yesterday to  backstages of it's often unseemly replacement the strip-tease house. Gypsy starsTony Award winner Patti LuPone. The Broadway production reunites LuPone with her City Center co-stars Boyd Gaines and Laura Benanti.

Gypsy give us an aggressive and finally tragic Mama Rose is determined to escape a normal life of day to day concerns by pushing the careers of her two daughters, one the younger June, who escapes her mother's emotional juggernaut by eloping and the older, shy and less talented Louise. The older daughter will eventually become the burlesque star, Gypsy Rose Lee, who will prove to be the stronger woman by rewarding her Mother with the painful and cathartic knowledge that she is no longer needed in her daughters successful career.

Preview performances are Monday through Saturday at 8 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m. There is no performance on Friday, March 28, 2008, however a matinee performance has been added on Sunday,
March 30, 2008. Beginning March 31, performances will be Tuesday through Saturday at 8 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m
