On Sunday, March 19th, James Royce Edwards played his final performance as Matthew in Altar Boyz.

Altar Boyz, with music and lyrics by Gary Adler and Michael Patrick Walker and a book by Kevin Del Aguila, also currently features Tyler Maynard as Mark, Andrew C. Call as Luke, Clyde Alves as Juan and Dennis Moench as Abraham. According to press notes, Altar Boyz is "full of sharp parody, sinfully spectacular dancing, and irreverent humor, this spoof about a heavenly guy-group (features) an extraordinary mix of side-splitting songs 'convincing enough to be played on MTV,' uncontrollable laughs and lighthearted fun." The show, which is directed by Stafford Arima and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli, continues to run at New World Stages (formerly Dodgers Stages).

Before taking on the role of Matthew, Edwards played Luke in Altar Boyz. Other credits include the Theatreworks tour of Les Miserables, national tours of Hairspray and Mamma Mia!, Forever Plaid in San Diego, and regional productions of Children of Eden, The Scarlet Pimpernel, The Sound of Music, Miss Saigon and Footloose, among others.
