Pace Presents: New York Choral Society, 5/19

On May 19, Pace University's inaugural Pace Presents season at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts comes to a close with a celebration of the New York Choral Society's Festival of American and Italian Music, the name given to the ensemble's upcoming summer tour of Sicily.

Under the baton of music director John Daly Goodwin, downtown audiences will have the opportunity to sample some of the 180-member group's most recent additions to its repertoire before it heads abroad. 

The Pace Presents performance and subsequent tour also mark Goodwin's final activities as music director of the New York Choral Society. After 25 years the conductor has announced that he will step down to pursue musical opportunities in Mexico (his second home), as well as teaching and guest conducting spots around the globe. In March Goodwin was awarded the Outstanding Leadership Award from the National Arts Club in recognition of his tenure, during which he prepared choruses for Leonard Bernstein, Dennis Russell Davies, Asher Fisch, Leonard Slatkin, Robert Spano and many other distinguished conductors, as well as leading concert tours of China, Mexico, Austria, Greece, Israel and Yugoslavia.

Kagan, Pace University's Director of Cultural Affairs and curator of the series. "We wish Maestro Goodwin and the New York Choral Society a successful summer tour, and look forward to another Pace Presents season bringing the best of all genres of the arts to Lower Manhattan."
