True to its name, the 1,650-seat Cirkus in Stockholm, built in the 1830s, was originally a venue for circus performances. Much of the showplace was rebuilt after an 1892 fire, and today the palatial building is used mostly for concerts and musical theatre.

As seen in the photo below, the Cirkus is preparing for the arrival of its distinguished new guest, Andrew Lloyd Webber's THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, which premieres on September 14th and runs through April 2nd. The international mega-hit will be performed in Swedish.

Peter Jöback, who has played the title role on both Broadway and on the West End, will star.

"It feels special to after my amazing journey on Broadway and the West End to get to this classic back to Sweden again," he says.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA played at Stockholm's Oscar Theatre from 1989-1995.

Far beneath the majesty and splendor of the Paris Opera House, hides the Phantom in a shadowy existence. Shamed by his physical appearance and feared by all, the love he holds for his beautiful protegee Christine Daae is so strong that even her heart cannot resist.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA opened at Her Majesty's Theatre on 9 October 1986 with Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman in the leading roles, and there have been dozens of productions worldwide since then.

Andrew Lloyd Webber's mesmerizing score along with jaw-dropping scenery and breathtaking special effects, magically combine to bring this tragic love story to life each night.
