No Constantine? ROCK OF AGES Film Announces Open Casting for 'Drew'

As previously reported, Julianne Hough has agreed to play Sherrie in the film version of ROCK OF AGES. 

Julianne Hough made her feature film debut in "Burlesque" in November, opposite Christina Aguilera and Cher, which also coincided with the release of the two-time "Dancing With the Stars" champion's second country album.

"I asked her if she wanted to be in a movie with Tom Cruise [who will play Stacee Jaxx] and she wanted to not get on the plane so she could celebrate," Adam Shankman, the film's director and choreographer said. "Her audition was surreal - maybe the best I've ever seen."

Now, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the production will be holding an open casting call for the role of Drew, who plays Sherrie's love interest and leading man. 

The Studio Announced they were seeking men between 18 and 21 for the role. Open casting will be Saturday, March 26 at Central Casting in Los Angeles.

Says original 'Drew' Constantine Maroulis: "Obviously, I feel like this is my part and I've done all the work and I feel like I've done a lot to bring the show to this sort of level of success...I'm not 21, but I'm an actor, and I think there's actors in every movie that are playing different ages and different times and different things all the time, and it's really about the believability of the performance. So come and see me in the show, read the reviews, read everything, and tell me that this isn't a part that I was born to play and there you have it."

The music that 'ignited a generation' is heating up Broadway in ROCK OF AGES. The classic rock love story of the decade erupts into Broadway's best party, all to the sounds of such feel-good, sing-out-loud songs as Every Rose Has Its Thorn, I Wanna Know What Love Is, Here I Go Again, Don't Stop Believin' and more. This five-time Tony nominated musical is nothin' but a good time.

The show is written by Chris D'Arienzo (writer and director of the upcoming film Barry Munday), directed by Kristin Hanggi (Bare, Pussycat Dolls on the Sunset Strip) and choreographed by Kelly Devine (Jersey Boys - Associate Choreographer).

ROCK OF AGES opened on April 7, 2009 at Broadway's Brooks Atkinson Theatre to critical acclaim, following an off Broadway engagement in the fall of 2008. The Broadway production was nominated for Five 2009 Tony Awards®, including Best Musical, and New Line Records released the Original Broadway Cast Recording in July 2009, featuring 28 songs from the show. A New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. film of the musical, directed by Adam Shankman (Hairspray), is scheduled to be released in 2011.
