New Exhibition room opens its second season with the world premiere of Candyland, a tall tale of job loss and recession woe, will run at Boston Playwrights' Theatre from July 29-August 14.

Girl has job, girl loses job, girl has to find a new job in a really bad economy. Join Kiki and the gang as they romp through uncharted economic waters, surviving on the advice of street prophets and hustlers, ramen noodles and shady game shows. The city of Boston and the down-turned economy get the NXR treatment in Candyland; where the playground meets the pink slip.

Candyland marks the first writer/director collaboration between the company's Artistic Directors Dawn M. Simmons and A. Nora Long. In 1792, a group of Bostonians flouted state law and traditional rhetoric by building a theatre. The New Exhibition Room packed houses for several months before being closed by the authorities. The public outcry that ensued eventually caused the repeal of the state's theatrical bans. Some years later, another group of Bostonians have come together to resurrect New Exhibition Room to build new work, engage local artists and once again get people riled up about theatre.
