Netflix Acquires Social Media Documentary THE AMERICAN MEME

Netflix has acquired the Bert Marcus documentary, "The American Meme." The critically acclaimed film had its world premiere earlier this year at the Tribeca Film Festival. The Netflix Original Documentary will be released globally December 2018

With support from social media moguls DJ Khaled, Hailey Baldwin and Emily Ratajkowski, The American Meme explores the journeys of four distinct social media disruptors, Paris Hilton (@parishilton), Josh Ostrovsky (@TheFatJewish), Brittany Furlan (@brittanyfurlan) and Kirill Bichutsky (@slutwhisperer), as they hustle to build empires out of their online footprints, redefining the paradigm for the American Dream.

Bert Marcus has produced and financed the transformative feature films Teenage Paparazzo (Sundance 2010 / HBO) and How to Make Money Selling Drugs (Toronto 2012 / Tribeca Films), as well as directed the critically acclaimed films Champs (Tribeca 2014 / Starz), and What We Started (LAFF 2017, Netflix). Bert also has multiple films in the pipeline, including Ophelia, starring Daisy Ridley & Naomi Watts, which premiered at Sundance 2018.

Key cast includes Paris Hilton, DJ Khaled, Brittany Furlan, Kirill Bichutsky, Josh Ostrovsky, Emily Ratajkowski, and Hailey Baldwin. Also featuring Lele Pons and Amanda Cerny.
