The New York Times revealed in an article profiling ON THE TOWN's producers that one of them -- Howard Kagan -- wants to mount Dave Malloy's off-Broadway hit electropop opera NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 on Broadway "soon". Kagan produced the musical event's off-Broadway run.

Wall Street figures Howard and his wife Janet Kagan moved into the theatre business a few years ago -- they transferred 'THE GREAT COMET' off-Broadway and also backed Broadway's PIPPIN and THE GERSHWINS' PORGY AND BESS. The pair is determined to keep their current hit ON THE TOWN running through the winter and beyond after investing more than $2 million out of pocket for the show, as well as contributing to many of the show's creative decisions.

The news of 'THE GREAT COMET''s potential transfer to Broadway follows the production's recent effort to raise funds for a 'GREAT COMET' film, which has now been put on hold. 'THE GREAT COMET' first premiered at Ars Nova in the fall of 2012 and eventually moved to a larger venue in the Meatpacking District, followed by a trip into the heart of the theater district, led by the Kagans, in September 2013. The show played its last performance at Kazino on March 2, 2014.

'THE GREAT COMET' is the must-see and critically acclaimed immersive musical based on a scandalous slice of War and Peace. In this musical theater experience like no other, audiences rendezvous with 19th-century Russia while enjoying food and drink as the music and drama flourish around them.

Directed by Rachel Chavkin, NATASHA, PIERRE & THE GREAT COMET OF 1812 has been showered with a host of accolades, including the 2013 Richard Rodgers Award for Musical Theater, a Special Citation from the OBIE Awards, five Drama Desk Award Nominations (Outstanding New Musical, Outstanding Music, Outstanding Lyrics, Outstanding Direction of a Musical, Outstanding Costume Design), two Drama League Award nominations (Distinguished Production of a Musical, Distinguished Performance - Phillipa Soo), a Henry HewesDesign Award (for scenic design by Mimi Lien), and the Off-Broadway Alliance Award for Outstanding New Musical.
