Moving Image Presents An Evening with Amy Ryan & Screening Of Jack Goes Boating

Amy Ryan's Oscar-nominated performance as a working-class drug-addicted mother in Gone Baby Gone established her as one of America's leading screen actresses. On Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., Museum of the Moving Image will present "An Evening with Amy Ryan," an in-depth conversation with Ryan about her career moderated by Chief Curator David Schwartz. The discussion will be followed by a preview screening of her latest movie, Jack Goes Boating, the directorial debut of Philip Seymour Hoffman who also stars alongside Ryan.

"The lovely, deeply felt romantic drama Jack Goes Boating shows yet another side of Amy Ryan," said Schwartz. "Her performances are always marked by authenticity, intelligence, and intensity, whether she is doing drama or comedy, movies or television."

Amy Ryan's vivid, wide-ranging performances on film and television include her roles in movies directed by Paul Greengrass (Green Zone), Clint Eastwood (The Changeling), and Sidney Lumet (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead), and on TV as Officer "Beadie" Russell on The Wire and Holly (Steve Carrell's girlfriend) on The Office. Clips from some of these works will be shown during the September 14th discussion. Afterwards, Ryan will introduce a preview screening of Jack Goes Boating, a tale of love, betrayal, and friendship focusing on two New York City couples. The film was one of the hits of this year's Sundance Film Festival and opens in New York/Los Angeles on September 17, released by Overture Films. In Jack Goes Boating, Ryan plays Connie, a Brooklyn woman who sells grief seminars to funeral directors and who tentatively enters a relationship with a limousine driver named Jack (Hoffman).
