AN EVENING WITH Amy Ryan, AND PREVIEW SCREENING OF Philip Seymour Hoffman'S DIRECTORIAL DEBUT ‘JACK GOES BOATING'

Tuesday, September 14, 7:00 p.m.
At Scandinavia House, 58 Park Avenue, Manhattan

Amy Ryan's Oscar-nominated performance as a working-class drug-addicted mother in Gone Baby Gone established her as one of America's leading screen actresses. On Tuesday, September 14, 2010, at 7:00 p.m., Museum of the Moving Image will present "An Evening with Amy Ryan," an in-depth conversation with Ryan about her career moderated by Chief Curator David Schwartz. The discussion will be followed by a preview screening of her latest movie, Jack Goes Boating, the directorial debut of Philip Seymour Hoffman who also stars alongside Ryan.

"The lovely, deeply felt romantic drama Jack Goes Boating shows yet another side of Amy Ryan," said Schwartz. "Her performances are always marked by authenticity, intelligence, and intensity, whether she is doing drama or comedy, movies or television."

Amy Ryan's vivid, wide-ranging performances on film and television include her roles in movies directed by Paul Greengrass (Green Zone), Clint Eastwood (The Changeling), and Sidney Lumet (Before the Devil Knows You're Dead), and on TV as Officer "Beadie" Russell on The Wire and Holly (Steve Carrell's girlfriend) on The Office. Clips from some of these works will be shown during the September 14th discussion. Afterwards, Ryan will introduce a preview screening of Jack Goes Boating, a tale of love, betrayal, and friendship focusing on two New York City couples. The film was one of the hits of this year's Sundance Film Festival and opens in New York/Los Angeles on September 17, released by Overture Films. In Jack Goes Boating, Ryan plays Connie, a Brooklyn woman who sells grief seminars to funeral directors and who tentatively enters a relationship with a limousine driver named Jack (Hoffman). (Jack Goes Boating: 2010, 91 mins. Directed by Philip Seymour Hoffman. With Amy Ryan, Philip Seymour Hoffman, John Ortiz, Daphne Rubin-Vega.)

"An Evening with Amy Ryan" and the preview screening of Jack Goes Boating will take place at Scandinavia House, located at 58 Park Avenue (between 38th and 39th Streets), Manhattan. About Museum of the Moving Image
Founded in 1981, Museum of the Moving Image is the only institution in the United States that deals comprehensively with the art, technology, and social impact of film, television, and digital media. Housed in a building owned by the City of New York, which is the site of the former Astoria Studio, originally constructed as Paramount's East Coast production facility in 1920, the Museum boasts the nation's largest collection of moving image artifacts and screens hundreds of films annually. Its exhibitions-including the core exhibition, Behind the Screen-are noted for their integration of material objects, computer-based interactive experiences, and audiovisual presentations. A major expansion and renovation of the Museum's facility is currently underway. Designed by architect Thomas Leeser, the project will double the size of the Museum and includes a new 264-seat theater, a 68-seat screening room, new galleries for the exhibition of digital art, and a multi-classroom education center. The expanded Museum will open to the public on January 15, 2011. For more information, visit movingimage.us
