Melanie Santos Cordero to Lead MIME CABARET at American Mime Theatre
The performer will present archival duet MUSIC BOX alongside new works at the Janet Carafa-directed company.
Physical theater performer and ensemble leader Melanie Santos Cordero will headline the upcoming Mime Cabaret showcase at American Mime Theatre on May 17, 2026.
The performance will take place at the company’s studio at 137 West 25th Street in Manhattan. Founded in 1952 by Paul J. Curtis, the American Mime Theatre is recognized as the oldest continuously operating mime company in the world and is currently directed by Janet Carafa.
Santos Cordero trained at Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre and has also studied the American Mime Technique. Their stage credits include STOP KISS with 5C Productions, THE COMEDY OF ERRORS with Staten Island Shakespeare Company, and work as a performance swing at Brooklyn Art Haus.
While the cabaret will feature new works created by company members, Santos Cordero has also been selected to perform Music Box, a duet drawn from the company’s archival repertoire. The performer previously appeared in the ensemble work Sludge and the devised physical theater piece Next Stop, which premiered at the TEDxCUNY conference.
Internationally, Santos Cordero has also appeared in productions in Toronto, including BLOOD WEDDING at the Pia Bouman Theatre directed by Sue Miner. Screen credits include Toothless for New York University Tisch School of the Arts and the short film Mariah ¡qué baile!, which screened at festivals in Canada and the United States.
